Reactions to intense stress? Paranoia?
Or worse and something I'd substitute a mental disorder for any day: there's a supernatural disturbance going on. Ugh...If your dog's acting crazy as well...I agree that there could be something to this. Or your dog could just be chasing tiny moths like my cat does sometimes. Animals can see and hear a lot better than people. So, it could be something perfectly normal, or....ugh...the unthinkable. I don't want to scare you either, but I have horrible problems like this at night too, and I don't think it's all me.
Sadly, I have no tried and true solution to either of our problems. Sometimes meditation or prayer will help, but then other times it makes the attack worse.
Goodness, I wish you luck!

Have you been watching scary movies or eating anything wacky that might have caused this? Any other major changes in your life?
Take some deep breaths and try to relax.
I've had a spooky-grey-guy-at-the-window dream several times a year since I was a kid and it always freaks me RIGHT out!!!
Whenever I wake from a bad dream I try to think closely about it and look for things that aren't correct. (You know stuff like "I don't own a shirt like that." "My walls aren't that colour.") Whatever it takes to disprove the reality of the dream and forget about it.
Also, I'm not really superstitious and it may sound REALLY goofy, but after years of bad 'fire nightmares' my parents got me a dream catcher when I was about 23 (9 years ago) and it really seemed to help. I carried one with me into my new house the day we took possession of it and hung it up right away in the bedroom. I always give them as a gift to new babies and as housewarmings.

There is obviously something bothering you and you're freaking out about it. Something has happenend to you and you're not over it yet. That, or your house is real spooked. Animals can normally sense these things and it seems that your dog is sensing it too. If you feel that this is carrying on longer than you feel it should, see a shrink or talk to someone that can put your mind at ease. If you ever want to chat, contact me at olliebear01@yahoo.com

been on any new meds? Could be some stress factor too. Is anything unusal going on? Is someone in the family sick? Problems at work?
Probably your dog is worried about you. Animals seem to have a 6th sense when it comes to these things.
Stop the caffiene. No coffee or sodas. Could be some new medicine interacting with another one. I'd ask the pharmacist on that.

Ummm...not trying to scare you but usually when animals start looking at things that aren't there then there usually is something there if you know what I mean. I have three cats and there have been times when their heads all turn to look at something I can't see. This is when they're sitting in different spots and can't see where the other is looking. Then again, it could be something else....

Donot think about ur dreams, nothing will happen. Check ur blood pressure and any symptoms for other respiratory disorders. Consult a physician/cardiologist and a psychlogist if felt necessary.

Is there anything going on in your life that is unusual? Sometimes a little thing gets you a bit anxious, and that builds on itself. What kind of support system do you have? If I were you, I'd talk to someone I love and trust about it.

our subconcious mind uses dreams sometimes as a way to warn us or to work out our fears or problems while we sleep, in order to make us stronger or to overcome our fears or problems. on the other hand sometimes a dream is just a dream , maybe you should write down your dreams and use them constructively, look at steven king ? rich but weird, yet happy.

have you been eating before you go to bed? that can cause that or just stress and lots of stuff on your mind, as far as the dog im sure its your subconcious telling you he is looking around a lot, when you think something is going on like that you have a tendancy to see things differently and the more you think of it the more its going to seem like its real.

well lets see it could be an anxiety attack or post trumatic stress disorder or trauma flashbacks or bipolar disorder. go see a shrink and find out before it gets any worse. They have some really mild meds you can take to really help you.
