Army is depleted because there is lack of volunteers. Thus, the Army has resorted to telemarketing to recruit prospective soldiers.

The Army is suffering from poor recruitment numbers.
If the military would stop prosecuting soldiers for doing their jobs and support them perhaps more people would join up. Have you heard of the Pendleton 8? Eight brave soldiers are sitting in the Camp Pendleton jail - some in shackes for allegedly killing civilians during a firefight. The one witness was an Iraqi (who probably hates Americans anyway.)
If you are going to join the service and go to war, you must believe that your government is behind you. Sadly I do not think that this is the case, or we would be supporting and defending our troops - not locking them up for doing their job.
God Bless our troops!

Military recruiters have been telephone prospecting for years. If you took the ASVAB test at your high school you probably put down your cell phone number. When the recruiter gets the results of the ASVAB test they call the number that is listed. If you didn't take the ASVAB, then they could have gotten your name and number from a school list, or one of your friends may have referred you.

I joined the Navy in 1984 after being cold-called by a recruiter so it's nothing new. Recruiters have quotas to meet and will use any means necessary.

(Tricia is wrong, our re-enlistment is higher then ever before in our history. Get the facts.)
You really wanna know?
OK, you asked.
(Amen to what C's mom said)
Our government school system has convinced kids for years now that our military is evil, and the best way to deal with an aggressive country is to grab your ankles.
Therefore it's getting harder to find kids willing to fight and die for this great country.
P.S.
To some of the people reading this, I know this may come as a shock to you, but our military is still an ALL-VOLUNTEER army.
They're not "taking" our kids and shipping them off to die. These "kids" know exactly what they're doing, and any one of these 18 year old "kids" (guy or girl) has bigger balls then the whole democratic party combined.

has something to do with the me generation not stepping up during a time of war.
I have a solution to their recruiting problems but no one will listen to me. I say, give the illegals amnesty and the right to become US citizens in trade for an 8 year enlistment in the army or marines.

Ive been called, but I dont think its strange. They just want to find people who would volunteer, because people who come willing are always better fighters.
They are not depleted, since only 100,000 of the 1,300,000 people in the active military are actually deployed.

Its because there are less people interested in joining the army as there were in the old days. Also its not compulsory any more so people dont feel obliged at all.

possibly a friend referred you? Our retention in the military right now is bad. tons get out when they come home from Iraq becasue they're pissed off and feel they wasted their time. Being a member, there;s a referral program now. Anyone I refer who joins, I get 2000.00. You get sent as recruiting kit and everything.
The military has given me some of my best memories and experiences.
