Sure, Buddhists don't seem to start a lot of wars or anything, but a lot of them do live pretty restrictive lives. I haven't heard of Atheists starting any wars either.

I'm unaware of any wars started by Buddhists and they brought peace to a (at the time) incredibly violent part of the word.

Also, their philosophy is focused on training the mind. Their own mind and not that of other people. Look at this board and the vast majority of hateful posts are religious nuts trying to impose their nonsense on other people. If they spent half their energy fixing themselves (the only people they can fix) the world would be a much better place.

Also, 'JewishGirl' could not be further from the truth. Buddhism is the training of the mind to fully appreciate the world.

No. I find it hard to believe that a statue of a fat guy can control the things of the world and that includes peace. I can't say that I have studied much about Buddhism. Have Buddhist never been to war? Is there no crime in Buddhist countries? What are some of their "do's" and "dont's"? Are you, and/or do you know Buddhists? Are they all peace loving?

i think every religion has the duty of being peacefull, for the responsibility that they have towards mankind , its strange that now we have to give accolades for something that was a basic requiremenst , or probably because people of various faiths have actually forgotten what actually there religion truly means , but I must admit there have been skirmishes between islam and buddhism in history as well, although in all places like sri lanka, indonesia and malaysia they are actually provoked by islamic followers .

While I appreciate the Buddhists, I'd give the 'most peaceful' award to the Jains. From what I remember learning about them, the most devout members of the religion will sweep the ground in front of them to insure no bugs get accidentally crushed and some wear masks to eliminate the possibility of ever swallowing an insect.

buddhists are pretty peaceful, but there is a lot of buddhist doctrine that i don't really agree with. ie, i think G-d gave us this world to take pleasure in, not to distance ourselves from. my interpretation of buddhism was that worldly joy is not good. i may have interpreted wrongly though, but thats the impression i got.

If you think that young men should be turned into beggars and monks rather than drug mules and drug addicts then that may be peaceful for one set of people.
