If you are suffering from depression that will happen. Are you? You don't need to answer that, just ask yourself that question. Or sometimes bipolar (manic) disorder will do the same thing. I'm sorry, but I didn't notice if you were male or female. Maybe you're just like some of the rest of us, a night owl, whose clock just doesn't work with the 8 to 5 o'clock routine. Don't let it discourage you or make you think you're not "normal." Ask yourself what is it you love most to do, and that will help you. 'Cause if you're not happy, or forcing your body to do something it's just not meant to be doing, and going against your own biological rhythm and timeclock, rather than what it instinctively knows it should be doing, that's what's going happen, and you're going to suffer from depression. Take heart in knowing some of the most gifted people on earth have had to deal with the same challenge. Einstein, was one. He couldn't deal with 9 to 5, and and to work at his ownpace. Heck, there were days he even forgot to eat he was so busy, and he was even considered to be retarded!. But as far as us mere mortals, been there, done that. Can't tell you how many nights I stayed awake knowing I had an important trial the next morning (I'm a court reporter). And the court clerk would say to me, Oh my God, you mean you haven't slept yet? Or, You mean you've only had 2 hour's sleep? Because sometimes I would be in trial for 12 hours or longer, depending on how long the jury was out. Adreneline does that to you. But when the trial was over, I would do the same thing: mega sleep for 16 hours. Other times, I couldn't sleep at all if I was wound up about, say, a murder trial.
Anyway, I guess it boils down to us finding our real purpose in life. I go thru 3 mouthguards a month because I grind my teeth so bad from the stress. Obviously, though I make mega bucks at my job, I'm NOT HAPPY! And that's what it boils down to.
I hear ya rrxdeadma...been there! Except the next morning, the world is still there and you gotta deal with it even though they're on a different time clock. Sucks.

I have the SAME exact problem as you do.. and I thought I was the only one. I'm constantly getting dogged for it by family and friends too.. I don't know if you have that problem but it just adds to our original sleeping issue. I'm eighteen and I've been like this for years myself.. Have you gone to a doctor? It could be a health or pscyhological problem.. Personally, I have bi polar disorder and some other mental afflictions and I think that it is pretty much responsible for my problem. (I go to school at night because I can't make it in the morning and also had to go to a much more expensive school because the others only offered morning hours) I also have problems with tardiness and missing important events such as birthdays.. It's horrible and I know exactly how you're feeling. I've been considering going to a sleep clinic and I think if there's one in your area and you have the time to devote to it you should do that too. I believe that it is a mental thing as well.. you have to train yourself and make yourself wake up.. But you know what, I can't do that myself so that's hypocritical.. I wish there was a solution for us. Just voicing my comments. I wish you the best.. I've tried Ambien and Traxadone but they didn't work for me. Maybe they will work for you?

You may want to ask your doctor to refer you to a SLEEP STUDY CLINIC. You might have sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Both can be dangerous by themselves (for example sleep apnea will cause you to stop breathing for periods of time during sleep and with narcolepsy you could fall asleep at anytime or anywhere). At any rate whatever appointment you have in the morning you need to cancel it and go see your doctor. You do not want to be driving and have this happen to you. Have someone take you to see a doctor right away. This goes for all of you who have this problem. Don't think it's a mental disorder. I hope you all get help with this because it's very sad that you guys can't live a normal life.

You might be suffering from depression. Oh no not me right? Yea you seem to be under a lot of pressure and that might cause it. I know I suffer from depression but I have no medical insurance so I have to deal with it. I sleep all the time except when I work. And when I have days off I get drunk the first day and sleep the next until I have to work. Yea a great life isn't it give me a bullet to the head anytime.

You should check into a condition called narcolepsy,,although most people with narcolepsy will fall asleep almost anywhere even in public places or driving.. you might also check into other things,.. you might need some type of medicines to help keep you awake ,, good luck to you..

maybe you need to invest in a five alarm clocks that ring real loud and set them 1 minute apart and put them out of reach so you have to get out of the bed to turn them off. put couple of cans of Red Bull next to your bed and make yourself drink them as soon as you wake up.

maby if you make some schedule for each day and put time for it & promise to your self that you do it at the exact time it may force you to get up early or told to your self if you couldnt wake up you lose your chance and maby you want to escape from thinking about your life and choose sleep
