Do NOT use lotramin on a baby unless prescribed by a doctor. Don't put vaseline on him either. That traps in moisture, which just makes the rash worse.

Continue with the cream the doctor gave you, use it religiously. If it still doesn't seem to be making any affect whatsoever, take him back to the doctor and tell them: This doesn't work. What else do you have?

You don't say how old your son is, but when my youngest was a baby we used to give him an oatmeal bath, put him on the floor with LOTS of cloth diapers down, and nothing on but socks and a t-shirt when his diaper rash was bad. That let the air get to it so it had a chance to dry and to "breathe". After about a half hour of that we'd put diaper rash ointment or cream on, and then his diaper and of course the rest of his clothes. Just make sure the house is nice and warm and that he doesn't mind being on his tummy for awhile.

Out of all the things that we tried, that seemed to work the best. We'd do that after he'd been fed, burped, and went poop. That way all we'd have to clean up was some wet diapers. Good luck! =)

when my son was 4 months old, he had very bad diarrea which gave him a rash so bad that he was actually bleeding.
i did a few things that helped get rid of it:

-i used cotton balls dipped in warm water to clean him instead of wipes which usually contain alcohol.
-before i put an cream, oinment or his diaper back on, i made sure his bottom was as dry as can be
-i used desitin night time formula, which is very thick because it contains 40% zinc oxide instead of the standard 10% that most other creams have, so it protects and heals much better.
-i would let him go without a diaper for awhile (like half an hour or so) to let him air out, even if that meant having a towel in hand in case he went pee or poo. air and dryness is the best thing to combat diaper rash.
-i changed his diaper frequently, even if he hadn't messed himself, cause even moisture from sweat can irritate a rash.

hope these tips help. good luck.

Actually, A & D ointment works great, or you can put the diaper rash cream on and then put vassiline over it to help keep urine from soaking into his skin. Check his diaper every 1-2 hours for wetness. Also, with my son I have used the Baby Aveeno Oatmeal Bath when he has diaper rash. He has sensitive skin and this is Hypo-allergenic.

Well I wouldnt use baby powder because with a boy, even if he is circumcised, the powder can cake up around his penis head. Doctors dont really want people to use baby powder either because it causes diaper rash.

I would try to get Balmex. It works alot better than other diaper rash creams. The type of diaper that you might be using could be too rough for him. The baby wipes could be too rough too.

SEE if you can get him some Balmex, get baby wipes that are xtra sensitive ( huggies).

First, change the type and brand of diaper he uses. Look for a dry-type that won't get his skin wet when he pees. Then look for a zinc oxide (vit a & d) cream for diaper rash in your local drugstore. Its normally white. Don't use regular powder on his and try to get him into cooler parts of the house. If its really bad, you can combine the diaper rash ointment with a good antibiotic cream that really dries up rashes fast. Ask your drug store clerk for good brands that are safe for babies.

My daughter had the worst nappy rash and the dr prescribed 3 or 4 different creams and none worked so we tried Amolin cream from the supermarket and it is a miracle cream honestly it was gone in like 2 days and now whenever any of us have a little rash we use it and it goes away in like a day.

Cornstarch is cheap and effective. My daughter-in-law used to make fun of me for powdering his bottom like a dough nut but it works and so does letting him air out a little bit. One of the best suggestions someone else made, is to buy the sensitive wipes. They are so soft and your baby won't cry like with the regular wipes. Try Huggie's, coconut or any sensitive or Pampers. They are great for kids with sensitive skin, rash or no rash. A&D is still one of the best things around too. You can plaster that on really thick. If the baby is really young, it may be allergic to milk or something else and that creates a severe diaper rash.

I wouldn't use baby powder or cornstarch, because they will just mix with the urine and then you'll have paste. You need something that will form a barrier so that the urine cannot get to your son's skin. I would use any oil or ointment. I've heard that Crisco (hydrogenated vegetable oil) works well, but I've never tried it. I used Desitin ointment for my son's diaper rash, and that worked well. I also think that washing with just plain water and then going without a diaper as much as possible really helps.

Diaper rashes are a form of fungus. Try using Lotramin (not gynalotramin just Lotramin - the anti-foot fungus cream) as a diaper ointment and it will help clear up the diaper rash fast.

I have 6 kids and this really works wonders over diaper ointments. Although the next best ointment I've used is Balmex, and I used to be a desitin mom before, LOL.

O.K. nobody here has mentioned "Happy Hiney", yes it is a real diaper rash ointment, but it's a prescription. My daughter had a really really bad case and that was the only thing that worked. If the doctor had to intervene, you might need something stronger than Balmex or Desitin, not knocking them they work great on minor to moderate stuff.
