The truth is, the shiites believe that Ali, Muhammed's son, was a prophet as well. The sunnis didn't and elected a Caliph (that's like a muslim pope). Both believe that the other is commiting blasphemy, and the quran says blasphemers should be killed. Thus, their problem is obvious.

Plus, they're muslims, killing is what they freaking DO!!

Sunnis and Shiites are as much Infidel as the Christian and follow other than what Allah has revealed and have lost the Meaning of the Quran with insertions of false identities and tradition that they look upon as superior to Quran, and they make Quran dependent on tradition after Allah "Completed" or "Perfected" the deen of Islam in Quran.

As for why they kill each other, Quran prohibits division and the formation of sects is a rejection of Quran.

Muslims (sunni'sand Shiites) trace their lineage thru Ishmael. Gen. 16:11-12 says he will be a wild man and against every man.

What about Catholics and Protestants in Ireland? They're both Christians. Why can't they get along?

Why did Catholics and Christains kill each other when Catholicism split? When ideologies fracture everyone is too focused on who is right and who is wrong to focus on their faith. That goes for every religion!

Islam was getting stronger and stronger in its childhood. It was a a thorn in the side of Judaism and Christianity. That is why they both made plans of ruining it independently. Christians introduced their own ideology in one branch of Muslims by convincing the newly converts that Ali is face of Allah (in a way Ali is Allah), just like they believe that Jesus is son of God (or even God Himself). So this branch of Muslims became Shiites. The historians wrote loads of the things to hurt the image of Islam and the image of the companions of Prophet. Shiites are so much against the companions of Prophet that they call their names. This is not tolerated by Sunnis and they fight with them.

It is like person A tries to defame person B's parents in front of a big gathering. And if person B's parent were poise and he knows that this is the allegation, he will try to protect his parent's fame by any means (i.e. debate or fight).

Fighting and discord within Islam, within different sects of Christianity, and between the followers of different religions are generally struggles for political power.

The same situation exists between conservatives and liberals.

The unfortunate part of all this struggle for political power is that parents teach their children to fear those who are different, and preachers call upon their followers to reject those who are different.

Ultimately, it's all a struggle for power.

When you believe that you have the correct worship of the one God, and you have had drummed into you since infancy that it is your duty to convert or kill everyone who doesn't have the exact same belief as you, this is the result.

If God created us, every single one as an individual, he must be appalled by those who try to make everyone the same.
