Why do young men wear their trousers and shorts this way - showing all? I am so confused by it. Is it some kind of language, a message? I'm lost. I've asked a couple young men about it and they tell me they've lost weight recently and can't keep their pants up (yeah, right!) so am inclined to believe there is some hidden message here that isn't open to all us old-timers that don't have a clue.
Can someone shed some light on it?

I thought I was in the minority when I thought that this was a strange fashion statement.
The only message they are giving out is that they do not know how to dress.

Humans are primates and all primates have a liking for the 'butt'!! Men/boys wearing such clothing is nothing more than being totally careless and unfazed by the exhibitionism.
This is because they feel that they will get attention when they do something like this.
Another cheap gimmick for 'survival' or in today's world...to be 'in'!!

In South Africa it started off as a practice to IMITATE criminals who were arrested. The belts, shoelaces etc of all criminals would be confiscated when they are arrested, to prevent them from hanging themselves or using it as weapons against others. This resulted in pants slipping under the bum. (The confiscation of belts etc is not being practices anymore).
Nowadays, the pants below the bum is worn simply as a fashion statement. AND its very cute.

Did you rebel?, did you wear a fashion that the oldies thought was poor taste?
well, even if you didnt, i'm sure you know what i mean..
now then, consider youngns today, what is left for them to do to rebel?, not a lot, its all been done.
if hippies hadnt been invented yet, the kids might well be wearing long hair as thier statement, as it is, thats oldies stuff.

Are you referring to rappers? Well, it's a new fad going on... I worn hip hugger back in the late 60's to early 70's. But, no my buttock doesn't peek at the world.

i think it's a fashion trend, like those 10 feet hairdo or big plates on the nose back in the days. since everyone does it, it's a perfect opportunities for these poor kids to fit in.

They think it looks cool. Fashion is a funny thing. One person decides it looks good and the rest follow like sheep.

hi ur absoloutely right. ihv seen guys wearing pants so lower than there waist that when i see them running ( while playin basketball) isay what if there pants just fall down. full show! it looks really silly . i've seen girls too wearing skirts so low that there upper part of d body looks more than d lower one. some tell these guys girls this is such a stupid fashion of theirs. see ya

I think that the light is being shed in the wrong place wouldn't you? I find this very offensive myself just carry a roll of duct tape and tape their crack you might find it works.

It used to be a sign they had spent time in jail (no belt- get it?) then it was to prove they were easy-access.
Whatever. They need to pull their pants up. Nobody wants to see THAT.
