some time the problem it's just not liking to poop (let's just say they feel embarrassed or don't like the way it feels)so he or she holds it in.
sometimes the problem is psychological ,does he/she attend a day care, and is there for long periods of time, do you or ur husband go on individual vacations or are way a lot, while one of you is with the child, maybe they miss the other person, i know it may sound strange but that could happen, sometime maybe the food they eat or like to eat a lot makes it hard for them to ......
so they don't like it when it hurts. they are products that would helps i say take him/her to a doctor they are more than one way to make the kid poop, you wont her ur child so don't worry .

Constipated is only that if the baby is trying to go and can't, the poop is hard, stomach is hard and big,or they are in pain. Otherwise, it could be five days. Three times a day for a two year old is ridiculous as a set number. Some go everyday, a couple of times a day to every few days. Everyone is different. Ask her doc.

This brings back memories. My daughter would not go for days when she was 2. We took her to the doctor and after discussions and watching her behaviour we were told there are some children who like the feeling of holding it in. I know, sounds so weird. She held it for so long that she looked like she was getting the flu - pale, feverish etc. Daycare would call us and we would say it's ok, she's about ready to go #2. Sure enough, after she went, her colour returned and 'fever' went away. Part of the experience for her was also to march when she finally went, and she would only go in a diaper. That's right, we put it on, she would march and go, then we would take it off. She just outgrew the whole thing a few months later. There is no understanding children some time!

You will know when they are constipated as they will be in pain. You have to take into consideration the amount of food they have eaten when looking at why they haven't pooed. Have they been off their food and not eaten much? Then obiviously isn't going to pooo as much.

should poop 3 times a day
try prune juice, fruits (especially prunes and such)
Pears and other hard skinned fruits, as well as nuts help. There are soluable and insolualbe fiber. He needs both.
And lots of water
he probably has a food sensitivity

probibly 2. When my boy was 2 he pooped once, sometimes twice a day. a gentle way of loosining him/her up is to put a small amount of corn syrup in a water cup. should take care of that.

They should poop every day. Change his current diet to include lots of fresh foods, fruits and veggies and plenty of watered down juice and water.
