dogs rely on their tails for communication, to humans and other dogs..Have you noticed that most dog-aggressive breeds, have docked tails? I wonder if it has anything to do with not being able to communicate to other dogs, by wagging their tails...My breed uses it as a rudder, and for balance..dogs are designed by a designer much wiser than ourselves..who knew exactly what He was doing..But, as always, MAN decides to play God, and remake what was of perfect design..All wild dogs have tails..So they surely serve important purpose..not just a waste of skin and bone...How dare we decide to re-design..
Good luck with this, and Go Get'em!

You have the infor. for what? The reason it should or should not be allowed? The information of exactly how it is done? Any medical reasons why it shouldn't be done? The advantages and disadvantages of the process? Do you have valid reasons for your opinion? Have you spoke to a vet and ask their medical opinion? Do you know how many puppies have died due to this process?
Make sure you know the arguements for the process as well as against it and how to react without becoming personally upset, so the debate is not seen as an opinion only but for the benefit of the animal, then I suggest you write a rough draft on your debate, single out your strongest and weakest points and place them in line so that you can back up the weaker to make them more important than they may seem to be.
Have confidence in yourself and your information.

Are you for or against?
Against... start with a picture of the operation... or something yucky like that.
For... use a graphics program to put a tail on a dog that is normally docked... it will look funny and get your audience in the mood to listen.

Taking the tails of dogs off or docking is very wrong. It is illegal in my country Australia. It was stopped in around 1995. fox terriers and dobermans, rottweilers and bulldogs are the most common breeds that are docked. It's cruel it hurts them. All dogs are meant to have a tail.

Why dock? It is considered a major surgery. Is your dog not good enought he way it was born? Is it worth it to have the looks? Not really. Plus, it isn't cheap. I guess I am against it... Good luck!

I am against it.
I had a greyhound that had 'old age warts' on his tail. Basically, every time he wagged his tail and hit it up against something, they would break open and bleed. My vet and I discussed docking, but greyhounds use their tail so much for balance that we just decided to keep it. We just had to doctor the tail as needed. Poor guy, it was basically like having a sock on his tail, but he was able to keep it!
