Car seat issue!?
OK I am a mom of 3 with a new baby due in April 07 in all there will be 6 of us! in my car.
now seating in my car is not the issue it seats 8!
the issue is two of the seats are rear faceing and only 4 of them have sholder straps!
when the baby comes I know it will need to go in the middle of the back seat in a rear facing set (been there with the other three)
My issue is where can I put every one else!
my children will be 6y 5y and 4y when this new baby is born!
any one know the laws (I'm in Virginia) on where and how a child needs to sit in the seats? (are my two rear lab belt only seats as good as not there?)
right now my youngest (3) is in a 5 point in the middle of the back seat and the (4) and (5) year olds are in backless boosters on either side of him. (the boosters must be used with sholderstrap seat belts.)
oh and the passenger side air bag has been disabled! (the former owner had lots of kids)
(the third row seats are rear facing with lapbelts!

the lap belts are ok-just make sure you use the metal clip for the seat belt or use the latch system (if equipped) and eliminate need for the seat belt. There aren't any laws of where you have to put them, but in VA they do have to be in some sort of seat restraint until they reach 50# (when I lived there in 2004).

Just out of curiosity-what kind of car do you have that the third row seats are backwards?

In my state, Washington, as long as all the available seat belts are being used you're OK. When I was younger my mom drove a '64 Pontiac that only had lap belts in the front. If I was the only passenger, I had to sit in the front where the seatbelt was. If there was another passenger, I could sit in the back, unbuckled. The point is, you can't use what you don't have- just like the pickup truck drivers who have to put their children in the front seat, which is the ONLY seat.

I would recommend calling the state troopers or the county sherriff where you're at for a more definitive answer, though.

for the lap belts ,you can buy harness to fit it and use with a booster seat ,.that will make that safer ,the back seats have a weight limit so you may be better off putting the younger ones there but if its hard to get at ,I would put one of the bigger kids so they can buckle them self.

Go to the highway patrol office or to your health department they will come out to your car and not only tell you were to put the car seats but they will install them for you. That way you know for sure all your car seats are installed properly.

well its usally back seat middle(in case of side inpact) but in your case you have alot of kids your running out of room!... i would say as long as the booster seats that need shoulder straps have them you can usually attach other car seats to the bar thats between the seats..if you need help then you might want to go to your local police station and they can help you with it

Dad truthfully. He did no longer get mad extremely yet whilst he did..oh boy. My mom (being an emotional woman) continuously could get mad if the abode wasn't clean or if i did no longer do my chores or something, so I have been given used to it.

Let's see you have a computer, you live in the state of Virginia and you want to know about the laws concerning your state...Try this. Go to the search engine you prefer, (yahoo, google, ask.com, msn, etc), type in Motor vehicle law in the state of Virigina and go from there. Or Simply type in your States Name and you will get your State's website (guess what, all 50 have them isn't that AMAZING?). And search from there.
