I believe it is political movements that created the term 'latino' to group all such people together, to create an artificial identity, so they could then use such people for political purposes.

The Spanish language is derived from Latin - but the term 'Latino' is applied to a racial appearance by political movements. It is even applied to people who do not speak Spanish. It is an effort to unite the various ethnic groups of South America and Mexico under one identity to use them as a more powerful political force.

Leftists are masters of this 'grouping' to create political forces. They applied it in Europe with the term 'Aryan' even though it was applied to people who were clearly not of Aryan descent.

Basically, it is Leftists telling people of South America and Mexico that they are 'Latino' to make use of them.

latinos are those who come from latin america, this should include somehow also brazil and haiti, which are also countries with "latin" culture and language, but the definition is not so strict. So actually latinos is a better definition than hispanic because hispania was the name of the peninsula where now are spain and portugal... and no latino comes from there i bet!
anyways don't worry about that but instead try not to give in the fact that you are american, this adjective should apply to the whole continent and not only to the gringos!

My question for all of you is " Why people from Spanish speaking countries are called Hispanic and people from English speaking countries are not called Britannic. The Romans after all called Spain Hispania and England Britannia.. Also, I believe the term Latino does not apply to people from Spanish speaking countries. The only Latinos are the Italians who are direct descendants from the Romans who are the real Latins. Immigrants from Spanish speaking countries in USA are tagged as Hispanics or Latinos in order to separate them as a different group and discriminate them.
People from Spanish speaking countries did not know they were Hispanics or Latinos in their own country until they move to USA.

Latino is more inclusive than Hispanic. Hispanic refers only to Spanish speaking groups. Latino refers to everyone in the Latin America region.

People from Mexico, Argentina, etc. used to be called Hispanic, but it was thought that Latino was a better term.

Latino is one term, not all Americans use it. It is not a bad term or a racist term. It can be more accurate for race though. Hispanic does not denote race. Germans started the Mexican breweries. They are Hispanic now, but not Latino.
But it is just one term, I think it is being used less now, than it used to be.

Because spanish is a romance language that comes from latin. Ergo~ latin america, latinos. The answer to your question about the french~ they are a haughty and stuck up people with nothing to be haughty or stuck up about. They hate everyone but themselves, be glad that you aren't forced to be llumped into the same category as them.

I believe it's just an all-inclusive, blanket term to denote persons of all Latin-American origin, which includes Mexicans, Central Americans and South Americans. However, genetically, people from these countries are Caucasians; in other words, White as opposed to African Americans, Native Americans or Asians. There are only four races: White, Black, Red and Yellow, and not to be confused with nationalities, which are countries of origin.

I feel that a mexican american is a mexican american, and not a latino don't know but i feel the same way-just like they call Vietnamese and Laotians-Chinese and Japanese( Asians)so are the english speaking or whites called European American kind of confusing.
