Interesting question. All of the medical research I have seen use either L-carnitine or Acetyl-L-Carnitine. I haven't seen any research on the two forms you are asking about.

I did a search on Medline and found only one paper on L-carnitine fumarate. That study found some benefit (in vitro) on osteoblast activity that may be beneficial for osteoporosis. However, the study found another compound, isovaleryl L-carnitine fumarate, was more effective at a much smaller dose.

I found several studies in humans of L-carnitine tartrate. The results were mixed. Some studies showed some benefit to certain metabolic parameters following exercise, some showed only benefits in men and not women, and others showed no benefits.

So, it sounds like the best answer to your question is to try each one and see if you observe any positive benefits.

Best wishes and good luck.

L-Carnitine Fumarate is the stable form of L-Carnitine. It is less-hygroscopic and is stable at ambient conditions. It comes as a white powder or crystalline powder. It is highly soluble in water.
