If EVERYTHING else is equal, and we are speaking in averages, I thing a woman would probably less intimidating to a child.

Of course, when one deals with individuals, anything can happen.

As someone with a master's in education and a doctoral candidate in education for profoundly gifted children, I can tell you that early childhood education is often more dependent on the relationship between the parent and teacher than between the teacher and child. Because of this, it is generally accepted that women are the best early childhood educators because they tend to maintain a more open relationship with parents, and because parents generally feel more at ease with a female teacher. However, if you remove the parental influence from the equation (which is impossible of course, but just for argument's sake...), the gender of the teacher really has no definitive bearing on the quality of the educational experience for the child.

Not neccessarily, I've had some great male teachers (and some sh***y ones too) but same with female teachers. I think a lot of times, but not all the time, woman have more patientence espically in early childhood education.

No. Some women, like me, do not like children at all. You can't just assume that because someone is a woman she would be good with kids.

im not so sure about that. i suppose young children(gradeschool) should be taught by women, but my most influential teachers were/are men. women are more patient, but those men that are willing enough to teach have something in them that makes them inspiring... or at least the ones Ive encountered do.

No. I think it has nothing to do with being a man or a woman. It all has to do with your personality and your disposition with children. I've known more than my share of very crappy female teachers. And I've known male teachers who are excellent with children.
