See if they fit. Some do and some don't. I can use my 200 and 300 mm lenses from my 35mm cannon to my rebel xt, but I can't use my wide angle. Go figure, I think their suppose to be interchangeable.

In some cases, yes. However, some of the auto functions may not work and the focal length is not going to be the same, so a 50mm lens is not going to be 50mm on the DSLR. This is because the sensor is smaller than the 35mm film frame and the distance from the camera body to the film plane is different. I have a Miranda 35 and a Pentax DSLR. The filters etc. all interchange and I have a 135 that has the old Pentax screw mount which fits both, but the 50 has a different mount. I am looking for a Pentax lens plate that I can change with the Miranda one.

If your old Nikon lenses were autofocus then you should be able to use them on both cameras without any problems.

If they are manual focus lenses you should be able to use them (with some exceptions) on the D50 although they will only work in manual (M mode) and you will lose the ability to meter with them (so of limited use). Using new lenses on an old manual focus camera is trickier and in some cases it won't work (newer G lenses) or could even damage the lens (old pre-AI cameras).

For details and exceptions about what works and what doesn't, check your camera manual or this page:

you ought to purchase a clean digital Nikon physique however the old glass will in simple terms greater healthful and maximum applications consisting of metering won't artwork on maximum customer bodies. i might advise you get a Canon revolt T5i with a equipment lens. he will love the AF as Canon has the final AF of any device. (Ever be conscious almost all cameras at carrying activities are Canon (White lenses are Canon)). if your father extremely does want to apply his old Nikon lenses then there is an low fee adapter that enables the T5i to apply those lenses and wager what? they are going to meter precise with the Canon digital camera interior the path of the lens, Nikon won't. you're able to be able to desire to lead concentration and set aperture manually besides so why no longer a minimum of have the metering artwork and artwork immediately? Canon additionally has the final and maximum finished AF lens device attainable. I guess your father as quickly as making use of the recent AF will want to no longer use the old glass besides different than for uncommon events.

They have the same mount but...
* Any DX lenses for your D50 will show the dark corners that Sam mentions (vignetting) when you use them at the wide end of the zoom on your film body. They will work fine at the long end of the zoom though, and they won't damage your old body.
* Any manual focus lenses for your old body will not meter properly on your D50, but you can use them in manual exposure mode. (only the D200 and D2x can meter with manual focus lenses.)
* A few exotic lenses for your old body can cause damage to your D50 - Nikon make one or two lenses that you could only use with mirror lock up, and the D50 doesn't have that feature.

Look near the back of your users manual. There is a chart showing you which lenses work and which features will still work.

If you have any new DX lenses, they will not give a good image on your film camera. The corners will be dark.

I believe they are. However, it woud be wise to check on the web if your specific lens will fit the D50.

If the lens is same size as your camera lens housing then it'll fit. If it's not, it won't. If your camera is 35mm and the lens is too then they will be interchangeable. If one is 50mm then forget it.
