If you have caramel skin and hazel eyes there is European genes in your blood line. Genes come in pairs. Light eyes are recessive and dark eyes are dominant. Each one of your parents had to have a recessive light eye gene for you to have light eyes. This means that neither of your parents could be fully black, because they each carried a light eye gene even if you see dark eyes. HUMANS who live in northern colder climates have light eyes and skin because they don't get much sun. Reverse is in southern hotter climates as protection from the sun. Skin follows the same genetic rules so your lighter skin genes and a northern Italian light skin makes your daughters gene pool all light. All babies look like their dads at birth it helps with the bonding process when the dad can see his features in the baby.
My grandson was white when he was born. His mother is Irish and German his father is Native American and African. He has Native American hair, dark eyes and his skin has darkened with age (hes ll now) and native American features.
Did I say he was gorgeous!!! It doesn't matter what your father looked like both of your parents have a beautiful grand baby. Stay proud and enjoy the family you have now.

How can the guy cheat and you have a black baby. The baby came out of your body so it had to be you who cheated. Maybe your gay then I'm not even sure what happened. But if your a girl and there was a black guy involved, even with protection it still could have been the black guys baby. Portection doesnt always work you know.

All of the people I know who have one black parents and one white parent have skin color best described as cafe au lait, but genes are tricky things. Most of the Black people I know who have hazel eyes have a white parent or grandparent. I'd guess your unknown father was white or half white, but again, genes are tricky things.
If the people who ask you about her father's nationality get annoying, tell them you don't know; you were driving down a deserted country road at night, you saw a circle of blinking lights in the sky, your car died unexpectedly, you passed out and when you woke up you were pregnant.

well there could be many reasons. Northern Italy is known for light skinned blond women. As for genetics there is recessive genes...Not just regarding skin color but possible inherited genetic diseases....Your mother may have her reasons for keeping silent but none are worth the health of a child. You as parent need know as much as possible about your family tree, and your husbands also. There are genetic disorders that affect different races.....For example: persons of Jewish decent sometimes have an inherited disease called Tay-Sachs disease Persons of European decent their children are more prone to being born with spina bifidia. African Americans are more likely to have sickle cell anemia.
As far as the people who seem shocked do they play an important role in your child's life? I hope not, and is it possible you are being oversensitive to peoples reaction due to some untold reason?

Many people have mentioned recessive genes and they are all pretty acurate but right now your child hasn't been exposed to the sun at all either. Chances are that once your child is exposed to the sun more, they will darken slightly and look more like the mixed blood that you were expecting. Even if she doesn't, it's been mentioned before, you have a healthy baby that looks just like her papa, many would kill for that.

You have plenty of good answers. Your husband is white, although latins tend to be a bit darker than Northern Europeans, and you must have white recessive in your heritage. Your daughter got your recessive and her father's lighter recessive as well. Congratulations and just make sure your daughter always knows that she is a natural daughter and that she is loved for who she is and not for what she looks like.

Yes, do you know about recessive jeans? I think white skin would be recessive, in your case. My grandpa has all blonde hair, and my grandma had black hair (it's graying out). My dad has blonde hair w/ black eyebrows & pubic hair, and my mom has reddish hair. My hair color is like my dad's. The black hair is recessive. I have a 5 year old stepbrother. My stepdad has black hair. Proof even more that black hair is recessive. My stepbrother has all blonde hair; proof that red hair is recessive. Also, actual eye color (not black), is not apperent in all black people & Asians. It's more of a European thing, and since your husband is Italian, he should have eye COLOR, just like you. Eye COLOR is apperent in white skinned people.
