It's hard to say. Are you a smoker? Do you do drugs? Could you maybe have bronchitis or pneumonia? Does your home have a lot of mold and mildew? Maybe you are having some kind of allergic reaction to something. Those are only a few possibilities, but only your doctor can say for sure. Good Luck! :)

Most commonly, pain when breathing is caused by a simple case of heart burn. Without knowing your history it is hard to say exactly what it may be. Some things would include, asthma, edema (fluid), heart problems, bronchitis... The first thing to ask yourself is what you had for dinner and if this is resolved by using an otc antacid such as tums or rolaids. You may be able to rule out some things on your own. If you have alot of difficulty breathing, dont wait until morning, go to the er tonight.

Usually when it hurts to breath it's a symptom of some form of pnuemonia. The lungs get filled with fluid and it almost feels like you have broken, or cracked ribs.
I'd be careful. Drink plenty of liquids, and don't hang around anyone that smokes for awhile. At least not til you get treatment.
Hope you feel better.

I get this a lot...
and I used to have it when I was a kid too.
Ive been told it may be caused by an infection of the lining around the heart, treatable by antibiotics.
I have always had a lot of anxiety so that may also be the reason.
could also be asthma or collapsing of tiny tubes inside the lungs.
could be a broken rib.

anyway, it's treatable.
