The mere fact that you would ask this question is evidence that the law must and should be enforced. Oh yeah, you do have a choice - when you turn 18. Yep, the teachers are dumb, the rules are stupid, the homework sucks and the tests aren't fair. Now imagine being 29 years old and working at McDonalds parttime or Walmart, and your friends that stayed in school, drive nice cars and wear cool clothes come in and see you. So the choice is yours, go to school because you have to, or work nothing jobs with no pay for the rest of your life while the world passes you by. Just curious though, what is about knowedge that you don't like or want? And if you don't go to school what are you going to do? Sleep late, hang with your friends, drink beer and smoke cigarettes? Yeah, that will really impress your next date. Or asking her out, and then she has to drive and pay because you have no job.

Like many laws, this one is for the benefit of the kids. In a perfect world, good parenting would make these laws unnecessary.

Most states only require school attendance up until 16 years old. Before that age, a child is not considered mature enough to make the choice on his own.

I agree with these laws because getting a basic eduction is the most important thing anyone can do to insure a productive future.

Anyone who complains about being "forced" to attend school should try living in a country where only those born into wealth and power are able to have an education. Try bettering yourself when you are unable to read or do simple math.

Stop whining, thank your lucky stars you were born in a nation that gives you a free education, and do your homework.

No absolutely not I am afraid to say, after the age of 16 you should be able to choose, without meaning to sound condescending, under that age children don't really know their own mind (I would have been outraged had someone said that to me then). People would not let a child discipline themselves or choose what they want to eat, education is a sign of civilisation.
Think, I expect if most children were given the option, few would go to school, think of the amount of illiterates we would have, we would be swamped by ignorance (more so than we are now), there would be this huge group of people who would be almost unemployable.
What on Earth would we do with the children who didn't go to school? What would they do?
If you had never been educated, you wouldn't even be on this site being able to ask this question or even write it...
It may suck, but its for your own good! SO THERE ;)

I think that this is a hard question to answer...but, in my own personal opinion if you are a minor then you shouldn't have that choice simply bc at such young ages we imagine that we know everything and truly believe that we do...heck it wasn't too long ago when I felt the same way ...sadly I dropped out of high school but, later went and got my GED...I used to think history was boring and stupid bc it was about the past and dead people and how could that possibly help me later in life...what I failed to realize was that the future is built from the past (History) and with out history we have no future....There are many other examples I could give you and of course another reason being...without an education...its hard to reach for the stars...and become someone who is financially stable or at least comfortable.

True. There is no social contract compelling free men and women to send their children to what amounts to a political indoctrination center under the pretext of education. That would amount to slavery. It is administrative regulation masquerading as legislated law. People of America have got to learn that administrative regulation is NOT law and does not extend to the vast majority of the people. The choice should be up to the parents of the child.

Edit: I should point out that schooling was present in a superior form before the advent of "public schooling". Local schoolhouses run by professional teachers were the norm. America has forgot that most of her great thinkers came from these modest institutions.

Considering the fact that you can't spell, the I think you really shouldn't have a choice. When you are an adult you can make the decision whether you want to go to school or not, but as a child your mind isn't as developed as an adults and is not always able to make the best decisions for yourself.

Nope, when you are a child you have no rights. And a perfect example of why you should be forced to go to school is right above in your question. Allowed is the correct spelling for the word you have mis-used above Aloud. Your punctuation and spelling taken into account, you need to be in school, probably 24 hours a day.

I don't think so. What you think is right for you now, you are deciding without all the facts that life will show you as you get older. Schooling is the best way to ensure that you will be ready to present yourself in a job market where 1000's of other people are trying to get the jobs you want.

Either go to school and LEARN or just drop out. Your choice...your life....BUT...do not put your hand out for welfare....do not beg on the streets.....do not take up jail space by stealing or doing drugs. It iIS your life....decide where you what to get and the take steps to get there. If you want to be a ditch digger....fine, but if you want a Plasma 48 inch and a Porche then stay in school for as long as you can and learn EVERYTHING possible!

If you ever want to get a good job you will find that most places won't hire you unless you have at least a high school education, and now allot of places require college courses, so if you want to survive in this world you need a education.
