Nothing is perfect. All religions and cultures have good and bad things and you can learn from all of them.
By the way: What is good?

Yes they are all good.

Consider that a child is born and raised in a culture with a religious belief. Their entire life is based on the culture and religious traditions that they have been taught. That child grows up to teach the same culture and traditions to his/her children. If a person has known nothing else....how can you call them bad?

They don't know that anything different exists, especially in 3rd world countries where educations, books, computers are rare or non-existent. You can't really blame anyone who has had no opportunity to experience anything else.

Christianity isn't a religion in the truist sense. Religion is more about following rules and regulations to get into a good standing with God. Christianity is the opposite. While there are many Christians or Christian churches that have become religious this is not the way the Bible says that we are to be.

Even Jesus talked against being religious. He told the pharisees that their man-made religion was getting in the way of what God really wanted (Mark 7). The Bible tells us that we have all sinned and are therefore no longer perfect, we cannot make ourselves perfect, we cannot expect to earn our way to Heaven by trying to do good. The Bible teaches us that all the good things we do are as "filthy rags" in God's site. No matter how good we try to be we are filthy sinners. God loves us and wants us to be with Him forever. Of course God is perfectly just and cannot just allow us to get into Heaven freely. Therefore justice must be served, we are imperfect and must be separated from God forever (death).

Therefore Jesus teaches against religion and instead tells how instead of us trying to be good enough, He was good enough for us. He chose to take our place in death. Instead of us becoming separated from God, he chose to take our punishment...and thus justice was served.

So, we are not to follow some sorts of rules and regulations hoping they will get us into Heaven. We are not good enough to follow them and will break them. We just have to put our trust in Jesus and know that He was good enough to get us into Heaven.

*Note, I am not saying we shouldn't try to be good people, of course we should. God made us and He knows what's good for us, which is why He tells us what is right and what is wrong. But let's never think for a minute we can earn our own way into Heaven through religion, because we will never ever be good enough.

You only showed the negativity of some cultures and religions. Look for the postive ones and focus on them.

Good is an abstract, subjective concept. It only lives in the minds of Men.

Good question and I rated it such.

I see from your comments that in your view it seems your looking at a one sided picture as Sela said in her answer to this question. Thus your comments lead me to believe you already have passed judgement on what you did list from your view. Such is just fine, based upon maybe your standards of good and other than good. I will accept your position and not try to change you.

Let me tell you what my wife told me as her personal experiance. While growing up she said they always had food to eat. Never too much but each day there was always something even if it was only boiled green bananas and coconut milk. That was just their life here in the Philippines and they just accepted it as the way life is.

Then one day after she grew a little and learned to read in school she found out that she was from a poor nation and based upon their standards they were at the bottom of the world standards on the poor list. She said she could not really understand that at all..When growing up she did consider them as doing just fine because her father always brought home food of some kind to eat because he always rented land to plant. Now many of her neighbors use to come to them to ask for some green bananas and other food because they had none at all. Thus she thought they were OK and at times rich because other did ask them for food.

Now in your opinion was my wife really poor when she was a child or is the standard of poor and rich based upon the view of others in a whole different society and then such is imposed on others? Are there not a lot of people in a great country like America who sometimes have no food to eat or maybe enough for only one meal a day?

I kinda view that Good and other than good in such a view at times as you do. Some see their life as just a way of life and they do not set a guide to good or other tthan good. It seems it is always outsides who want to impose the outside standards on another and then judge by such in a good or other than good way.

Please I do agree with you that there seems to be a lot of injustice in the world, which is now, was before, and in my view always will be. It is in my view because of the innate nature of humankind. As long as humankind is selfish, self centered, and looking out mainly for number one it will not change. So from that view can a good or other than good rating be imposed?

I agree a lot of changes should be made, but I accept this universe is not owned by me and no one put me in charge. I thus let the boss take care of it for I am sure He knows what He is doing and why He is doing it.

I just try to be content, help others if they have a neede I see with food, or something that is really a need and not just a desire and go on with my life. You see I chose to be an American who lives in the Philippines on the Philippine economy so I did adjust to their life style, set of values, and I accept their standards as to what is good and other than good. I don't judge them.

Please see this as my view only and consider your standards or row the Romans should live. I have heard when in Rome do as the Romans do. Of course you are free to reject what I say and I can accept that OK Its your life and its you decision, not mine to make for you.

Now2 do have a good day and do smile and let others live as they desire to live.
