I would say that there is a very great difference. For a person can act very religious, and be not spiritual at all. In order for a person to be a spiritual person, then they must be filled with the Holy Spirit; which takes place at the time of salvation. Anyone can act religious, and have no Godly Spirit about them at all. But if a person truly has God's Spirit living within them, then they will prove it by the life that they live. In other words, a person will be known by the fruit which they bear. It does not take very long, being around a person, to be able to know whether or not they are truly living for God; or just trying to act as if they are doing so. If we know and live by the Word of God, we will have the Godly wisdom to be able to tell a true Christian, from a hypocrite.

Yes, being spiritual is being in touch with God through the guidance of the Bible and the Holy Spirit by faith. It is based on a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Religious means someone goes through a routine because it is expected. There is no faith or relationship involved. There are even those in the Christian comunity that get religious and forget the spiritual aspect, which is more important.

It depends on the person who practices religion or just wants spirituality. Some religious people do not understand spirituality nor want to go further in it.

I don't describe myself as "spiritual" or "religious" but I've been called both. I don't take offense to either....I'm starting to detest "PC" terms and that's all they are. If you don't want to offend someone, you call them "spiritual" and if you know they belong to a certain religion, you call them "religious".
I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I don't have a "religion" to tell me what to believe. In the grand scheme of things, it's no body's business. The only reason I tell people about God is so that they can come to know Him and know how AWESOME He is. AND...because God wants a relationship with EVERYONE!

I think so. To be religious is to follow and participate in the rituals of that religion. To be spiritual is to believe in the supernatural. The ideal member of a church would be both. The typical atheist is neither.

Big, huge, difference. I am very spiritual, I love God. I do not believe in any organized religion because most of them are based on fear and hate. That hate is inspired and perpetuated by the men who wrote their religious books and the people who believe them to be the word of God. They are not the word of God!

Religious means "regular, faithful".
Spiritual means "pertaining to the spirit/Spirit."
The definitions are different, but in practical terms not the meaning. As a pastor, I would be thrilled with either and consider them the same.
