They just assume I am, or don't care one way or the other. btw, I'm of Italian (1/2) descent & my b/f is from Italy so we are always hanging around Italian people. They never ask (I don't know if they can "tell" one of their own! lol ) if I am or whatever, or if I am Catholic (which I am).
OK, so when I am in New York, I always get asked (only be Jewish people) if I am Jewish. Why? Why are they so inquisitive? Especially if I have any accomplishments ((like I mentioned I scored in top 1% of a national exam, & several Jews said to me "oh, how nice, and you're Jewish???)) do they want to claim me as one of their own? lol.

haha that's funny
Italians are probably more secure in their accomplishments and don't feel a need to steal yours.

I've dated a few jewish girls and I noticed that even though jews hang together in business, they are seldom knowledgable of their own religion. This jewish girl I dated knew nothing about her religion to defend it. Italian people on the other hand are mostly catholic and have strong spiritual beliefs therefore they live in a spiritually based world not a materialistic based world where worldly accomplishments matter. The only thing that matters to spiritual people is if you're a good person. That's why they don't care what your nationality or religion is. It's further from their mind then it is for jews who are just looking to bond with other jews for business reasons. Who can I make a business connection with? That's like their one track thinking. Which is fine in this world. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. But you asked, and I truely believe that this is the answer for the difference.

Italians are a friendly bunch. They will take you for what you are, and not what you accomplished in life. They are a very accepting people, (as long as you like to eat) LOL!!!
Jewish people are very cynical. They are very "protective" of themselves, and secretive, about what they do. They guard themselves well, because they are afraid some one is after them..(and they have a right to be paranoid, it seems that some one always is!).
They believe in accomplishments, and excelling, to show the World, what it means to be a Jew.
They seem to think that they "have" to excell, and be noticed. They have to make a friend every day, so that no one will persecute them if they have a friend, the will stick up for them.
I dont know, I have nothing against the Jews, nor any religion or sect of people. Everyone is GOD's Children.
I wish you well..

As I recall, most Italian males are so busy assessing any female's body that they have no time for small talk. Good thing your bf is always with you, or you'd be grabbed. I don't think the average Italian boy would be too impressed with your national exam.stats. After discovering for themselves your physical stats, they'd want to know if you can cook as good as their mama. Jewish people, on the other hand, tend to be great kibitzers and are often both affectionate and inquisitive. Why should they not claim you as one of their own, as smart as you are?

The Jewish accent and the Italian accent in New York is preety similar when they talk in English. Most likely it's because of that.

Wow. You sound pretty special. Are you an Ohioan? I would like to claim you as one of my own who is from the great Buckeye state. lol.
I think it's just a pride thing, something that sets groups apart. Everyone wants to feel special I guess.

Big deal, I am British and live in the USA, how come people don't ask me if I am British?
Are you expecting some type of paradox or something.
People are people, if I met you it would be unlikely I would ask your origin, just like I do not expect anyone else to ask my origin, even if my accent gave it away 99% of people never ask my origin, why should they ask yours?

I'm half Italian and could care less about what someone is or to ask them. I think most people are that way.

People are always curious what ethnicity other people are - it's just simple curiosity. Most ethnicities don't count you as being "one of their own" unless you are full blooded.
