Of course you can. You can die from drinking a glass of water. Anything is possible....this is America.

It all depends on how hard it hits you....if you are stopped at a light and it just lightly bumps your rear end you will most likely be all right. If you are cruising a two lane road and cross the center line and get hit head on then you might as well prepare for your dirt nap. If you are both doing 55mpg that is like 110mpg into a brick wall, I don't care if you are driving a full size SUV, it is pretty much over. Not sure what kind of convertible you drive, but I would suggest that you do not plan on taking any hits from a semi truck, unless you want to quickly end your life.

Brohma85 provided an excellent answer. Following too closely behind a truck or hanging out alongside the trailer is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! Even more so when it is a 6 lane divided highway, like many interstate highways are. Cutting in front of a truck to get a little bit ahead either on the road or at a stop light, because the truck doesn't accelerate as fast..... will put you further behind in the long run. So, yes, it is highly possible that you can be killed from a collision with a semi while driving your convertible.

A few good ideas to remember..... truckers work extremely long hours, if its late in the day, we might not be as alert. A fully loaded truck weighs about 80,000#'s or 40 Tons. Although we have a commanding view of the road and can see JUST about everything, don't assume that we can see you zipping in and out of traffic behind us. Pass on the LEFT whenever possible, its where the driver is most likely to see you first in his or her mirrors.

My last point is this, we don't come into your office and cut in front of you while you work at your desk, don't cut us off in our office either!!! Cars, SUV's, Motorcycles and Semi's ALL NEED TO SHARE the road safely.

Well I have a convertible and I've been able to get many things into it with the top down, but not a semi.
The damage would be beyond repair, and not covered by my insurance.

Facing that prospect, I might want to die, but I won't...
I'll be just fine!!!!

you can die getting hit by a rock in a convertable, are you retarded? you could be driving an armoured HMMVW and die if you get hit by a semi, ask this question "will anything survive being crushed by 80,000lbs"

I haven't seen that many semi's running around in convertibles, but sounds like it could darn well get the job done if it hit you.

This friend I know was driving his semi in fog and these 3 drunk kids hit him head on, the semi was fine but all 3 kids were killed. So yes you can die in any kind of vehicle.

I drive a Semi, Do you have a convertible?

David Z (I believe was the name above) is absolutely correct. Most fully (legally) loaded trucks weigh 80,000 lbs. So if you're driving around them like a fool, remember that, they CANNOT STOP IN THE AMOUNT OF SPACE THAT MOST OF YOU CUT IN FRONT OF THEM ON THE HIGHWAYS! I'm refering to after you pass them and get back in front of them. People need to brush up on their understanding of physics and the dangers they put themselves in. No SUV is going to save you, nor will a fiberglass convertible car. You need to give semi's plenty of room (in front of, and behind) and not stick around beside them. You do not want to get into ANY kind of accident with a truck. Be safe.
