I have used the sonic (high beep sound) collars, and they work very well, and don't traumatize the dog..They are at WalMart for about $35..

RE:
Has anyone used a dog shock bark collar and it made their dog aggressive or had bad effects?
I have heard things about people using shock collars and it makes their dogs aggressive and even sometimes toward the owner under certain circumstances. Is this true and under what circumstances does this occur? Has anyone used it and have gotten good results? Also, if you do use one do you have...

They can be an effective training tool, BUT they should only be used by a professional trainer (in my opinion.) When your lay person buys one at a pet store to use on their dog, they may shock the dog as a correction for every little mistake the dog makes, which is not going to help. It can have disastrous results and can result in actually burning your dogs neck if used inappropriately. It can make your dog aggressive and fearful, because they can begin to associate you with the shock sensation, and then they might not come back to you. If you're talking general obedience training, you should start with a gentle leader. They're great, even for large dogs, because they control the dogs head. Wherever the head goes, the rest of the body has to follow. There are also various other training collars such as martingales, chain collars, and pinch collars. It can be hard to pick which one will work best for you and your dog. If you're not sure, you can probably find a trainer that would give you a free consult and help you find the collar and training devices that work best for you.

I have a very vocal GSD. He barks at everything.
I use a dogtra collar on him. It is very effective. I use the lowest setting that works on him for general use - more than an hour (his is 2 out of 7)
He learned how to short out the other collar for 30 seconds so he could bark through it before it cycled out to shock him again.
It works for us. We just have to use it if we don't want him barking. Some dogs learn - my dunder-head won't.
btw - he very rarely wears it!

I have used these types of collars and had great success with them for certain types of behavior.
They are great for excess barking. It will stop the barking at nothing but mine will still bark if they see someone in the yard. Even with the collar on.
They are great for getting the dogs attention when you cna not reach them and getting them to stop doing something right now.
If they are going to do something that could hurt them or someone.
If you are worried about the shock out the collar on your own arm and buzz it. It really does not hurt but it gets your attention RIGHT NOW. And that is what you are really trying to do with the dog get its attention and change the thing it is doing.
I hvae never had a dog get aggressive with me when useing the collar. If anything most will get more submissive.

Have never heard of them making dogs aggressive. Usually you keep it on the dog so that it will get shocked a few times when it barks...then you can replace it with a tight collar that still feels like the bark collar so that the dog thinks he is still wearing it, and will not bark. They also make bark collars that will spray citronella in the dogs face when it barks. This might be a better option that shocking your dog.

you shouldnt keep shocking your poor dogs with any dogs shock collar cus will make them worst and unthreat. why you want to keep the shock barking collar first place . is your dog ever harm somebody before or you dedicate that the barking will stop the dog barking all day. those kind collars arent good to any animals . cus one time my cousin put on her pit bull cus he was a bad dangrouse dog to kids and other pets . and when she did that shocked her dog it made him burn into his skin and later he just died cus the barkin collar shooked the dog so badly that my cousin killed him by useing the collar shocker too much.well you odnt need to use one forever either you think the dog going harm anybody alike a child or somebody you know . if you want your dog stop barking then dont keep it outside leave the dog there to bark . or you can just go out side or stay inside with your dog maybe he or she will not bark anymore. that what i do i keep my dogs inside every day they never bark much .

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/dogtrainingcourse
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

It works to an extent before it becomes cruelty
And it can break a bond even I prefer Spending quality time with your dog by training it yourself is better and it works just as well (you just need pateince)
Wheter it makes your dog aggressive or makes it a scardy cat it Can have negative effects no matter what it is
