what are the main reasons behind their popularity?

I think because we sit on the sofa knowing that we are just like these people that come from similar backgrounds and situations. We know that we could be in their shoes and we think that we could do exactly what they are doing.... only better.

People like to see drama and absurd behaviors that are labeled as real on TV. The budget for making a reality show is lower than a TV show with actors. And it is cheaper to hire desperate people willing to do anything to be on TV than demanding actors.

I have an un-used Psych degree and I adore reality shows. There's nothing more interesting to me than other people- what they do when they forget the cameras are there. The greatest part of our humanity is our flaws, foibles, and yes, hidden strengths. I watch reality TV to cheer for humanity!

Because we can watch and laugh thinking god thats stupid i'm glad im not like that! but even though we hate it for some reason we watch it!! i cant work it out
