If God doesn't exist, how did the universe come to be? The human race? How do you explain evidence of events that were written about in the Bible?

What happens when we die? if there's no God, what's the point of living? Why are we on this Earth?

I'll answe rit seriously even tho' I doubt you'll listen.

We don't know how the universe came into being. We have some theories (big bang, M-theory) That explain things pretty well and high energy particle physics seem to confirm the theories so far. If they don't we'll change them.

The human race evolved over a long time from more primitive creatures.

Events in the bible have been confirmed by historians and archeologists. As a book of history it's a fairly accurate account of events. Kings lived and died, wars were fought, etc. It's the mystical aspects of the bible we reject, not the historical facts that can be proven.

Nothing happens when we die.

Life has no point. It is only what you make of it. There is no reward for being good. This is where many people have problems. If there is no God why be good? Why not rape and pillage and cheat and do anything we want to? Because society has deemed such things unnacceptable. Because people are born with pre-programmed rules of behaviour. So are some non-human primates like Chimps. So do primitive tribes that have never heard of Jesus.

Why are we here. Malcolm, Jeff Goldblums's character in Jurassic Park put it well. Life finds a way.

I hope that helps to explain it

I'll try to be brief.

If God exists, then he set the initial conditions for the Big Bang.
After 10^-35 seconds after the Bang (a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a millionth of a second), physicists can give you a lot of information on how things evolved from there, no divine intervention required. Not that you're interested. Your mind is already absorbed in the Matrix.

Bottom line - God's been out of a job for 14.5 billions years, give or take. Maybe he moved to the Andromeda Galaxy next door. What, pray tell, would be the point of another galaxy? To say nothing of the billions of galaxies we can see with a telescope, each on the average containing billions of suns (stars, in case you didn't know that that's what our sun is). Why? If we're the be-all and end-all of existence? What's the point of such a vast universe?

The Bible was written by humans. Doesn't it show?

What happens when we die? Well, best case scenario is we become one with a sentient universe. Whatever that means.

What's the point of living? The universe is becoming self-aware through your eyes.

Why are we on this Earth? I don't know, we sure don't live in harmony with it like every other one of God's creatures instinctively knows how to do. There, I said God's creatures. Nothing wrong with that, even for an atheist.

Too many questions at once. First of all let me say this. It's not an either or thing. The universe can most definitely exist without god. You are making a fallacious assumption that because we are here, there must be a god.

It really saddens me that you would say something like "what's the point of living (if there is no god)." How do you reconcile that? What if we're right and you are wrong... you are basically saying your life is meaningless without some imaginary absentee father figure to cling to.

Historical events in the bible... well, this is simple. Pick up any novel in the book store. Chances are you will find allusions to real places, real people, real events... does this mean the entire book is not a work of fiction? The authors of the bible used their world as a context in creating the work. As a matter of fact, much of the biblical scriptures were passed down as oral tradition for many many years before they were committed to parchment... and sat many many years before they were canonized as we know them today. It's no doubt that people put their spins on the stories over time and this includes true life experiences.

Lastly, why must everything be answered for you? Can't you enjoy a life full of mystery? What's the point of making up this god figure so you can justify things you don't understand? Why not let the unknown be unknown? Better yet, why not observe and test the unknown in an attempt to make it known? Just because you don't know how something works doesn't mean automatically that "god did it."

Let's examine that question...

"If God doesn't exist, how did the universe come to be?"

You are implying that if I cannot tell you how the universe came to be, that means that God did it.

Therefore, you are saying that humans being ignorant about something proves a god exists.

Sorry, but your premise is faulty.

Your next question, "The human race?" has the same faulty premise.

"How do you explain evidence of events that were written about in the Bible?"

The Bible is a historical fiction. If you watched the movie "Gone with the Wind", it points to many historical events that can be shown to have happened, including the Civil War. However, that doesn't make the movie any less a fiction.

"What happens when we die?"

Generally, we start decomposing. We cease to exist as people.

"if there's no God, what's the point of living?"

Personally, I like living a lot more than the alternative of not living. I happen to enjoy being human.

"Why are we on this Earth?"

Because our parents had sex.

The foolishness that serves you as a substitute for logic and reason is a logical fallacy (a flaw in thinking) known as the "Argument From Incredulity"... which is a sub-category of the "Argumentum ad Ignorantiam" (Argument From Ignorance). It goes something like this: "I can't conceive of how this might have come to be; therefore, God did it."

That does not point to a limitation of nature... rather, it exemplifies a limitation of knowledge and/or intellect. Also, it is intellectually dishonest, since it does not (as scientists do) ACKNOWLEDGE the limitation of knowledge and/or intellect... it merely invokes the fanciful idea of a supernatural creator-entity to manifest the ILLUSION that cognitive dissonance has been resolved.

'Faith' (wishful, magical thinking) is a substitute for evidence.

'Belief' (the internalized 'certainty' that you are privy to the 'truth' pertaining to some fundamental aspect of existence and/or reality) is a substitute for knowledge.

faith + belief = self-delusion and willful ignorance

1. Big bang.
2. Evolution
3. There is evidence for a lot of things, but that doens't make it true. there is no evidence for a diety. There is also no evidence for moses, but I doubt you want to discuss that. Same lack of evidence for the ark.
4. We become nothing, like before being born, when we die.
5. Life is beautiful to live regardless of a god.
5. Because the right situations came into place and we evolved.

Cosmology - Big Bang
Human Race - Proto-live ooze consisting of water, salts, and amino acids began dividing.
Biblical events - Most of the Old Testament is aetological, which means it describes why things got to be the way they are. Because people 2600 years ago didn't have things like physics and astronomy, they used what they had: stories about gods.
Death - There's no way we can know.
Point of Living - To love everyone we encounter

I'm no athiest, by the way. I happen to think that one of God's most powerful gifts to his creations was reason and scientific inquiry.

Hey Christians, when you can't explain how something works do you just insist that it must have been God? Is it impossible that there just may be another explanation that has not yet been discovered? Did you know that when we die we are dead. Are you aware that we only have one life, so make it the best life it can be. Does there have to be a reason for every single thing, or might you be able to sit back and just enjoy this wonderful ride called life?

You ask good questions. Do you want good answers, or do you want answers that were created by the fearful desert nomads of 3000 years ago?

Science is able to give excellent answers to some of your questions. But the best thing about science is that it is able to answer "we don't yet know."

Religion says "This old book tells you everything you need to know. Believe it or you will burn in hell. Oh, and the parts that seem outdated and inconsistent? Don't ask too many question about them, that's just the Devil whispering bad thoughts to you."
