you're like me. it's like you want to believe in everything you've been surrounded with your entire life, but your mind won't allow the possibility of god to exist. you can't force what you believe. it's a feeling that can't be faked.

There is nothing wrong with you or your parents. The religion a person chooses has to do with so many things. I was raised primarily Jewish, but it was a dour form of judaism that did not celebrate life. I did not like the others that I met of the same faith very often and I didn't like the studying. Overall that religion was a lot of work for me with little gain, really. I rejected the idea of a personified god after a twilight zone that dealt with humans being toys in a doll house for a larger race - that creeped me out and since then that is what I equate that image with.

I say all these things to show how many varied factors went in to my leaving the religion of my parents. You must stick with what feels right. I can now see the beauty in Judaism as I meet a wider group of folks who live by it and I learn more about it, but it is still not for me. I have developed my own ideas and understanding of our existence here and it is very helpful to me.

As an agnostic, you might want to look for the beauty in the religion of those you love even if you can not embrace it as your own personal truth.

Peace!

I have some friends that i hang out with occasionally that have back slidden, at this time in there life they are just living life and not really carrying about anything, They grew up in church, but as soon as you get caught up in the ways of the world then the devil starts to deceive you and telling you that this is way funner than being a christian so on and so forth, but everybody has a different story. If you were raised catholic (i am not bashing catholics) then there is a very high chance of anybody going into the world, It seems like catholics go to church until they are ( i forgot what this is called) but then when they are to old for ccd they stop going to church and then when they have kids they go back, this may not be the case with all catholics but i personally know a few, but this is also the case with many other denominations. Parents do have a big part in how there kids grow up in how they discipline, what the kids boundaries are, and what the parents are doing around the kids to influence then while growing up, peace.

Have you ever considered that God Himself might have a hand in whether you believe or not? Faith is a gift, not something you can claim or even have to "decide" on. You either believe or you don't. Now let's go a little bit further and say that God has decreed from before the beginning of time whether you will believe and get the joy of salvation that comes with it. That doesn't make me a fatalist, by the way, I don't have access to the Book of Life, so I just get to enjoy telling folks about it.

So, will you believe in the Gospel message? Wow, I hope so, it's the greatest thing that ever happened to me, and I wanna help collect 'em all for the kingdom of Heaven. Come onnnn....look into it at least.

You have the right to your opinion. We Christians always say that you should pray about these things and ask for guidance. But you have to choose your own path in life. It may be hard raising children with a Christian wife though, since I'm sure she will want them to be Christian as well. Hopefully it all works out.

* It's pretty insulting for someone to say that you must be intellegent or you must have a brain to not be Christian. I don't insult people who do not believe as I do because it is rude. I have a college degree and have read up on the things I believe in. Everyone has the right to believe as they choose.

Jay,

Your parents didn't screw up. You're not Christian because you're born Christian, you're Christian because you believe in the bible and that Jesus died for your sins. You're not an Ahole for being agnostic, but I would be interested in chatting with you about why you're an X-christian. Feel free to email me!

Everybody's different. I grew up real religious and have done so many things that are against my religion. So I guess it's just what you may choose to do with your life. I always went to temple as a kid and did all that religious stuff. But don't do it no more and really don't care about it too much. I do believe in g-d and in my opinion I just think that there is only one g-d and everyone just has a different way of praying and talking to him through the different religions.

I don't think it's a choice, but a conclusion that you have come to by using logic, reason, education and common-sense. These are the same things that have led me to atheism. I hope that you and your fiancee can work things out. Relationships require compromise, but even more so when you are not in agreement on fundamental issues.

maybe because you were raised with the wrong idea of God. Maybe like me your church was judgmental and only made God out to be a cosmic Killjoy. All I know is that I know that God is the absolutely only one who can understand me. Sometimes the world is lonely, and I fail and sin and screw up, but I know that God knows my heart. I can't work my way by being "good". I just have forgiveness and comfort and since he created you, he knows you best. Try just talking to him about it, like you would a friend, (or yahoo) and just see what happens.

An ex-christian??? seriously, did no one pay attention to the the parable of the sower and the seed??? It teaches about true and false conversion. All people that I know of who claim that they are an "ex-christian" fit at least one of the categories of a "false convert."

Have a talk with yourself, what do you really believe? Maybe Christ is calling you back?
