I've had ingrown toenails since sixth grade, and they just keep getting worse and extremely painful. What kind of operation can I get to solve the issue and still keep my nail?

If you go to a foot doctor and tell him you want what they call a "permanent correction" done for ingrown nails. You can keep your nail, all they do is take a sliver off of the side or sides of the nail you're having trouble with and put some kind of acid on the root so just those sides will never grow back and your nail looks fine. My son had it done about 13 years ago and hasn't had a problem since! Good luck!

you can still keep your nail!! just go get the surgery it's really fast and you stay awake they numb whatever toe is the problem...cut away the skin and fix your nail...they don't take the whole nail off just the problem part...and you can't feel a thing...and before you know it...it's over!!! trust me...i had the same problem hurt sooo bad and couldn't walk and yeah just go see a doctor and let them heal you...that's all they're there for

if you are prone to them im sorry but the only answer may be to stop the toenail from growing permanently but go see a podiatrist and theyll help you out, i had one for years and had it taken care of for the fourth time about a year ago and it has grown back fine, so good luck.

my big toe nail was finally removed and due to some bad damage to the nail bed [big accident years ago] it was decided to not only remove the toe nail but kill the nail bed at the same time......thing is I am now suffering from a bone infection BUT that is NOT the norm.

You must see a podiatrist / chiropodist and get them to do what they can for you, poor you I so know how much it hurts.

See a doctor. They may be able to give you a local painkiller and then take care of the problem.
