BT are beginning to release phonebooks on the web
Their website is usually quite good, there's also 192.com (not a BT site)

Contact bt, british telecom. You can order phone books for all parts of the uk. You can also ring a directory enquiries number, give the name of the person you are looking for and the area this person lives, and they will tell you if he is registered, if he is, they will give you the phone number, unless he is ex-directory.

You can join, belive it or not the post office, you get a special number and password, and then you can find almost any post code, address etc, there are also yahoo. yellow pages...

right when you open the yahoo page on the left hand side it says yellow pages, then you just put what area you're lookin for.
