Devon Rex and Cornish Rex are good ones because of their curly, short fur. But they do look kind of weird, but cute in their own weird way. Devon rexes are the smallest breed of cats. Some think they look like pixies. They are very active!

But....I think you should look into Siberian cats! They are beautiful cats and oddly enough, are hypoallergenic for people who are allergic to cat saliva b/c they do not have the stuff in their saliva that cause allergies that other cats have.

My allergic friend actually has a pretty Siberian and it doesn't trigger the allergies. So if it's their saliva you are allergic to, then I would definitely look into this breed. I suggest you hang around a breeder's Siberians first and see if you are okay with them though. If all goes well, then you have a match! Btw, I too am allergic and am looking into this breed. They come in lots of colors, too.
Other breeds to look into:
Ragdoll (they fur that's similar to a rabbit's)
Traditional or Modern Siamese/Balinese (longhaired siamese)
Sphynx (the ugly hairless ones lol)
If you don't like that "sphynx" look or the odd look of the devons and cornishes, definitely look into siberians. Can't say for sure, cause you never know unless you personally interact with these cats and find out for sure, but Siberians are the best for allergic people because of their unique hypoallergenic saliva. Most people aren't actually allergic to hair, but to the salive, actually.
Good luck. Let us know what you decide. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions.
Oh, and here's a helpful site on how to decrease allergens:

You could get a Mexican hairless, the choice of many allergy sufferers.....or get a small dog called the Chinese Crested. Those are really cute, and have cat-like dispositions, but since they are dogs, they have 'masters', not 'staff' like cats.....and they poop outside.

Cats that go in and out are "aired out", so that dander gets left mostly outside. Allergic people, including me, have little notice of cat allergies in my home. Also, rubbing them off with those wet bath wipes helps to reduce allergens.

Rex cats (Devon or Cornish) are hypoallergenic... But are also sort of scary looking (to some people), with really, really short curly hair. I think that they're wicked cute, though! unique = awesomely cute!

Devon Rex or Cornish Rex- the one with the curly coat. Also any of the wire haired breeds.

Doesn't matter. Most people are allergice to the antigen in the cat's saliva, and since most cats groom themselves, it's hard to get away from.

If you have the allergies get the cat anyway..you'll get over it and the cat won't have to be euthanized. If your roommate has the allergies euthanize the roommate.
