you may not have a choice......I have no problem with it unless he is a close friend. You don't control much about the position you have with a given company...if you say no, they may let you go.

A) if this is a friend and I mean a real, true friend you should be able to tell him/her what a screw up they were to get fired and both examine it to find possible corrective action and then laugh about it in the end.
b) if your work wants to keep them and make you help them do their job and also do yours, say no, but work might get miffed and fire you. If that's the case, you probably don't want to be there anyway.
c) if your work wants to get rid of that positon and put the workload into yours-i.e. just downsize to make their profits margin a little better by shirinking their labor costs--again try to say no while keeping your job.
d) if it involves raise or perks or promotion or something truly worthwhile, yep accept the extra responsibility.

I think it depends on why he is getting fired. If it is because he is lazy, a thief, or doesn't do his job well then, no problem. However, if he is being ousted for the heck of it I might not be so eager to take over his job. Besides if the latter is the case, you may get hacked next.

Uh yeah, you still have a job you have to do. If you don't, they may fire you too and then someone else will get to do all of them. Hmmm...
Unless of course you told a lie and now this guy is getting fired for it. Then you better fess up and quit. Otherwise, do what you are told.

Your being asked to do the work of two people? I can't imagine they think you could keep that up for very long, but in any job, you have to do what is asked or you could be next out the door.

If they want you to do it in addition to yours, then no. Not without a promotion/payraise. Otherwise, they will be getting two employees for the price of one and you will just be getting a whole lot of headache. And don't fall for the "It's just for a little while" line; if they see you can do both jobs without going postal, that other opening will never be filled.

Close friend or total stranger doesn't change the answer. Yes. If he got fired chances are it with good reason and the only person he can get mad at is himself.

If it is a promotion or more responsibility and work tell them that you need a raise in order to take on these extra tasks. If they give you a raise I say heck ya, go for it.
