To travel the speed limit in this state (connecticut) means being harassed by 90% of the drivers behind me. They follow so close it is very distracting. Two women drivers on two seperate occasions even drove into the oncoming lane to pass me as I was going so slow?. I was doing the limit. I don't set the limits here but I feel forced to break them. Do the speed limits mean ANYthing? Why isn't there stricter enforcement?

No, you're not alone. I try to stick to the speed limit but sometimes I have to go with the flow of the traffic and give myself plenty of room with the vehicle in front of me. When the traffic around me thins out, I'll drop back to the speed limit.

For safety reasons, I think law enforcement has given up on enforcing speed limits. It's just too dangerous to stand still on the side of the highway. With the way some people drive, can you blame them? It's time for cameras and radars to enforce speed limits. Even the autobahn has sections where speeds are limited and enforced by radars and cameras.

Be sympathetic to others on the road. Some may be late for something, in trouble, or in my case not wanting to spend any more time on the road than I have to. I drive approximately 10 to 13 hours per week. Every time I get behind someone that is driving the speed limit and I am in route of an hour long or more journey I lose from 5 to 15 minutes. 3 times a day; 5 or 6 days every week and you are adding an extra 3 to 4 hours of drive time to my already windshield burdened life. And I am not in the position to just up and change jobs if that is your response.
I don't live in Connecticut, but if I did It is possible that I'd get irritated with you at some point. Sorry for that, but hopefully you understand where I'm coming from.

In some areas of my city is almost impossible to maintain the speed limits. For an experiment I try to comply with the 25 mph limit in a down hill and you can only do it by driving with the brake pedal down all the way, is really nonsense. In the express way with a speed limit of 55mph the trucks drive in the left traffic lanes much more faster than the speed limit and the other lanes are crowded with to slow cars. You really need to break the speed limit in some moments if you want to get to your destination.

Traffic Citations are nothing but big business.

Everyone else realizes this.

Americans need 8 lanes of traffic and we still have gridlock.

Germans have no speed limit, fewer lanes, but you don't see a German traffic jam nearly as often. Plus, we have as many wrecks in a month as they have in a year, or more.

Why?

Not because speed has anything to do with it, but because people there don't normally drive like flippen idiots with no care for anyone but themselves.

If someone is approaching fast from behind you and your in the left lane, if you do not yield to the faster car by changing lanes to the right you can be fined, and if there is an accident, it is your fault for not yielding.

Too bad 3/4 of American isn't mature enough for laws like theirs. The speed limits are in place because of all the idiots here who drive drunk, recklessly, or otherwise without regard or the required amount of attention necessary.

Speed does not kill, stupid people do.

Powerfull modern cars can travel at much higher speeds safely as long as their driver and their surroundings are intelligent. Many people in countries with no-speed-limit autobahns exceed 120 mph daily. It is not an issue in their structured society and no more risky than driving to work in the first place.

I drive about 80 mph on the freeways, and I don't care how fast or slow any one else drives, It doesn't mater, they can drive as they wish, but when someone blatantly stays in the left lane when they have plenty of room to move, that is annoying. I'm forced to break the law by passing on the right in order to continue at the pace I feel safe at. If someone wants to pass me, I let them.

If you can't go with the flow, drive so that you are not obstructing traffic and don't let your self-righteousness cause an accident. If the police want to enforce speed limits they can, and the community will get some money from the fines.

Not the only one, but one of only a few. It pisses me off because everybody is so freaked out over terrorism, and perfectly happy to ignore a real threat. We loose over 50,000 people EVERY year on our roads, and driving fast is a main contributor. 30% are teenagers, and they comprise only 9% of the drivers.
I drive less than 5mph over the limit most of the time and get the same treatment.

Don't worry about it. You don't have to worry about using your blinkers either - let the law-breaking speeders complain about that.
