This was a few years back. Someone in the Southern Baptist Convention got the idea that every year they would "declare spiritual war" on a different religion--Hindus, Jews, Muslims etc. No one really paid attention til they went after the Catholics. Guess no one told them Catholics are Christians too. My whole family is fanatically devout Southern Baptist, so I got to hear all about it. Just wondering if anyone else remembers that.

Okay, I checked online and couldn't find any details. But I am sure someone in my family remembers. If I find anything out I will post it.

Three Rivers, Christian just means follower of Christ. To the best of my knowledge, that applies to both Catholics and Protestants. They just do it in different ways.

As a Catholic, I am not surprised. It's pretty safe declaring war on the watered down Catholics of today, it has been coming back bit by bit lately. True Catholicism is very hard to find. However, what gets me is why they haven't ever declared spiritual war on Islam. Those are the folks who want to destroy you and me.
Don't believe all those Chick tracts about the Catholic Church being the enemy.
We Catholics have a long history of combating Islamic invaders and now let's have all Christendom unite and fight the good fight against the crescent moon.

What makes you say that Catholics are Christians?
I could write a book at this point.
To make it short , Their Gospel can not stand against the Bible. I was once a Catholic. A conversation with my priest changed everything. I brought loads of scripture that was just the opposite of Catholic teachings. He finally told me that the Bible was not their highest authority, but the holy fathers in Rome.
I am tempted to give all of my proof , but it would be so long, no one would read it.

I used to work at the Southern Baptist convention during summers when I was in college to earn some extra cash.
One summer I was there when JFK Jr.'s plane crashed, I mentioned it to a couple of the Southern Baptist counselors when I ran into them.
The response?
"Just another hell-bound catholic getting what he deserves."
Such Christian love there.

No I don't remember that one........As a matter of fact I believe it's untrue. I'm pretty familiar with Baptist theology and their conventions over the past 50 years and I certainly have no knowledge of a declared spiritual war on them.

No I don't remember it. However, it doesn't surprise me either, as I have been posting on the religious forums for 6 years now, & have been constantly debating with Baptists & other fundamentalist Protestants over Catholic beliefs.

the two faiths finally believe interior a similar issues. they are the two Christian. the two faiths properly known salvation by Christ's crucifixion, the two faiths believe in an all-powerful god. Now the two disagree on the extra superficial factors of religion. maximum severely, baptists take the Bible simply by fact the literal and unquestionable be attentive to God. They study it therefor, it extremely is authentic. Catholics study the Bible as generally a metaphor, something that desires to be interpreted. to no longer distinctive from fixing a riddle. This distinction in interpretation ends up in many diffused adjustments. Transubstantiation, by St. Thomas Aquinas' reason, is a mix of theological interpretation and Aristotelian good judgment. Baptists reject transubstantiation, simply by fact it extremely isn't any longer, be conscious for be conscious, interior the Bible. this concept is a vogue between the two faiths and on their disagreements. additionally worth of no longer, besides he endless extremely diffused adjustments, their is a extensive distinction between religious tone amoung the two faiths. As i'm specific you are able to tell purely from the responces, Catholics look much less confrontational, mutually as the Baptists look extra agressive. This stands to reason that a faith it is predicated of absolutes would be somewhat extra fanatical and much less accepting of adjustments. mutually as maximum of Catholicism somewhat recognizes the smaller Protesant denominations. in certainty, maximum Europeans have in no way heard of a in demand Baptist. So thats quite the conflict in a simplistic nut shell. i could additionally prefer to observe that the Catholic Church has an extremely beneficial dating with Anglicans, Lutherans, and the eastern Orthodox faiths. thrilling to observe, none of those faiths take the Bible actually eather. all and sundry of those faiths have their disagreements, even though it extremely is in many situations extra theological and much less fanatical, interior the renowned era besides. As a Catholic, I could desire to declare that no faith is punctiliously impressive or thoroughly incorrect. and that i think of it extremely is immportant and morally impressive to recognize the Baptist faith, examine out their ideals and honor its finer factors mutually as rejecting is worse features. i quite desire all faiths could desire to respectfully disagree, yet they cant.

I do remember when he SBC convention apologized to the negroes for slavery. Nice second-guessing the will and workings of God.
Maybe your leaders thought that after that suck-up you could get a pass on whatever other goofiness you indulged in.
