You should go to family court. You can get child support from your ex. You can also petition the court for a name change. Since your daughter is a minor, the father may have to respond to the court's request for a name change.
Even though he is being a jerk right now, try to keep an open mind. If the father comes around in the future you should try to be agreeable to your daughter and her father having a relationship. Let the courts take care of the money and you will have fewer hard feelings towards him in the future.
Good Luck!!!

In CA if u are the sole guardian u can change the name. Go to court! Even if u ask the court for child support there's no guarantee they'll get the $$ for u. They may garnish his taxes but then u will only get the money once a year around tax time... good luck. Its a process!

The father of the child is still liable for support and will be until your child is 18. You may be able to change the baby's last name to yours. Consult a lawyer about it.
DO NOT FORGE ANY LETTERS OR LIE TO A JUDGE. I know a gal who has done this and her name is mud with the courts. The funny thing is if she had asked the father to provide a letter, he would have done it in an instant.

Take him to court to get child support. If he signed the birth certificate he has legally accepted responsibility of paternity for this child and he is responsible to pay child support, you need to go to a lawyer and go to the court to see how much he is responsible to pay for the child each month. I'm sorry that you are going thru this alone. I'm reminded of a saying that my grandma told me: "Mama's baby, Daddy's maybe".Good luck raising your daughter, don't rely on him to come back to help her. He sounds like a real loser, he doesn't know what he is missing.

You just go file for a legal name change and the lawyer files it for you in family court. They publish it in the paper and he can contest it if he sees it, but it is one of those things they determine in the best interest of the child and for unmarried couple with mom as full custodial parent you will win even if he protested. And father does not need to 'okay' or approve of this for it to happen. Go look in the want ads of any major newspaper & you will see a bunch of notices every day for kids having their names changed. They don't even list the fathers name anymore on them.
Google for a family lawyer practice in your town.
You also have to go change her social security info too when you do it, don't forget- they will give you a new card for her.

Yes, but he has to OK it. Or you can claim you don't know where he is, but then you'll have to take out an ad in the paper asking if anyone objects to the name change. File the court papers, and give it a try, he doesn't deserve her to have his name. And while your at the court house, file for child support, they have ways of making them pay, although it depends on where you live, I know in California he wouldn't be able to renew his license until he pays up.

Yes of course, but depends on the country you live in as to weither you will need his consent or not... It can be done though, you are not married so look into it further with the births extract office in your state.
I personally would forge a letter or go there stating that he doesn't believe the child is his and therefore you wish to have the surname changed.

I'm not sure of the legal part of this. You can call most laywers and ask for free consultation. I think you need to look to the future first. Is it going to bother her if she keeps the last name, or is it just frustrating to you? Also, whether he see's the child or not, he is legally responsible for her. He needs to be taken to court for child support. You didnt create this beautiful child on your own, nor should you be expected to take care of her on your own.

All you have to do is go to the court house to get a name change packet and it might cost you a little but it can be done. Just be prepared to spend about $400.
