There are gays in the military. I spent twenty years as a gay airman. I don't believe I love my country any more or less than a straight man or woman. I'm sure George Washington had gay men in his army, and some of the bravest men and women in the military are gay. Yes gays should be allowed into the military. We've been in the military for over two hundred years and I don't think we've dishonored the flag any by being gay.

Whether gays should be allowed or not? That depends, are they mentally and physically capable of doing their job. Can they keep their sexual preference to themselves(don't ask, don't tell)? If they get called a fag are they going to through a fit and cause a scene? These are some of the questions that would have to be asked. I think as long as they do their job, and keep their private life private then whatever. Some people are homophobic so, if they can't keep it in the closet then they have to be prepared for the situations that could arise.
As far as the HIV/AIDS crap: Anyone can have HIV/AIDS. Just because someone is in the military doesn't mean they can't have it. Most bases do the testing once a year. So during that year someone could get it. There are straight men and women with these disease! Not just homosexuals gets them. And don't think that there aren't service members with HIV, because they are allowed to stay in. Check your military orders and what not.

Everyone in the military is required to take HIV tests, I am pretty sure that it is every six months. I think that anyone who wants to serve their country should be allowed to do so. The only branch of service that makes you sign a contract saying you won't be gay in the military is the Marine Corps, everyone else has a "Don't ask don't tell" policy.

Obviously, you haven't been paying attention to history! If we can have gay Governors and Senators. We've probably had a gay Pres. or two. Don't ask don't tell, right? If the PERSON( not title) is willing to serve their country, then why can't they be in the military. We can't just wipe them off the face of the Earth. They can do everything else, why not be a service-member.

Gays are in the military. I have worked with numerous homosexuals, male and female, and they did just fine. They also didn't go around talking about their sexual preference. We all knew of their lifestyle but it just didn't matter as long as it wasn't talked about. Nobody else talked about their sexual preference either.Somehow, it is no longer OK to serve your country but some extremist want the opportunity to serve AND talk about their sexual preference in the workplace. I don't know a single company that the workers talk openly about their sexual preference.

couldn't care less. they are now discharging arabic translators who are gay and the military is going through severe shortage of translators. should put them in separate areas if they like but keep them. who cares what you are as long as they translate material that might get us killed.

of course. they want to defend their country. their sexual preferance is of no importance at all. it's like saying people with blue eyes can't serve in the military. I mean it's really such a "hitler" way of thinking to discriminate against any one willing to serve.
