My one year old Lab, Beagle, Yorkie mix puppy chewed the stuffing out of my loveseat. What would cause her to do this? She has chew toys and plenty to eat. She also chewed the remote for my television/satellite. Any suggestions on how to get her to stop or why she is doing this?

Sounds like your dog is suffering from separation anxiety which is becoming more and more common in dogs now a days. The common symptoms are destruction of things when you leave them alone, even for short periods of time. Unfortunately, the worst thing you can do is muzzle him as this will aggravate him more and once he gets the muzzle off, he will become even more destructive. The best thing to do for dogs who suffer separation anxiety is to crate train them and basically confine them everytime you have to leave, even for short periods of time. When you crate train a dog, he soon learns that the crate is his den, and he becomes more comfortable & secure when he is left alone in the crate. It is not inhumane as you are making him feel more secure than when he is left alone and feels like he is abandoned. Hope this helps!

First of all...what I would like to know is where are you while your puppy is doing this?

Get a crate for when you are not home. Your dog should not be allowed to roam your house when you are not there. What freaks me out is what kind of electrical stuff could she get hold of to chew on? I'm very sorry about your couch, but if she were crate trained she wouldn't be chewing on ANYTHING, unless you allowed her to.

She definitely sounds bored. But its also a discipline problem. When you are not there, she is going to get away with anything she wants to because you are not there to stop her. By keeping her in a crate, you are making sure she is not chewing on anything you don't want her to. Make sure she gets plenty of exercise when you are home and perhaps try thinking toys like the Kong toys where you can hide peanut butter, etc inside.

She also might be still teething. That will encourage her to chew on things, especially hard things like the remote.

Good luck and get a crate!!! Goddess Bless!

It could that she bored, but if the behavior happens only when your gone ei. at work. It could be separation anxiety. I got two like that now had a third lucky she grow out of it. I have not found anything yet to claim them down. Other then crating and I hate doing that to an animal.

She's probally trying to get you attention. Or maybe something about the aroma on the loveseat got to her. Dogs, even puppies have good instincts.

Obedience training is first. But why she does it. These have your scent on them, she is bored, and mad that you left her alone. Crate train. Never allow a puppy to wander the house. Keep her confined either to a small room or in a crate.

She is probably bored, and lonley while you are gone. You may want to try kenneling her while you are out. If she chews while you are home too, try spraying Bitter Apple spray on what she like to chew.

Bored. It's the Lab in her. You're going to need to find a good way to entertain her or else she will continue to do this.
