I've heard that New Yorkers walk about 5 to 7 miles a day, and I figure that other big cities must be about the same. Does anybody live in an area like this where people walk most of the time, and how much do you think you average in a day?

I lived in SF and NY. Not many people own cars in NY also not many know how to drive. I took bus, ferry, subway anywhere I needed to go. Sometimes take taxi.

In SF also took the bus but SF Muni very unreliable, buses breaking down, gangs harassing passengers, shootings.

Amazing to say, but was safer riding in NY than in SF.
