It is so frustrating nowadays driving and people just disregard the yield sign. Even when there is another car next to me in the left lane, folks still are not yielding.

Ever been on a new freeway . . .
merging is not a problem.

As usual government is out of control . . .
(I call it sloppy politics)

They don't want to put a cap on the number of cars produced . . .
So the roads become huge parking lots . . .

How do you merge between two parked cars ? ? ?

Check out my web site . . .
I think you'll like what I have to say

First, people don't recognize the meaning of yield signs. It means STOP if there is traffic that will interfere with your entrance onto a roadway. IT DOES NOT MEAN that the other traffic has to do anything for you! It is courteous to let a merging vehicle onto a roadway IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO (this is another reason why it is recommended you look well ahead and check mirrors often, so you can accommodate merging traffic, when possible), but the motorist in the merging vehicle should never expect or assume you will let them in. Secondly, people often wait to check their mirrors or LOOK OVER THEIR SHOULDER (usually because they're yapping away on their cell phone) until the last 15ft. before the ramp ends. NOT SAFE OR WISE! And people cut in front of 18-wheelers just as readily as they will a car to get on the highway, can you imagine that?! The best defense against this is to alert these inattentive drivers by laying into your horn to let them know you are there, you may be saving yourself from an accident by doing this. You'll be surprised how many don't even realize the situation that is unfolding until that point (and even with the horn they still may not, scary). Please be safe and careful out there, and I hope some others have learned something here.

This is a HUGE problem on I-4 and I-75 around Tampa, FL!!! Highway traffic has the right of way as they are traveling at a higher rate of speed.... However, it is a good idea to move over one lane to the left when around on ramps and exits for exactly this reason. I've had a number of close calls with people who INSIST on talking on the phone and drag race onto the highway without any regard for who is next to them or how large that vehicle is. I have had a few guys try to drive their pick up trucks under my semi-trailer because they thought they could speed by.... A semi going 75 mph is a large obstacle to try to beat!! Part of the problem is that the on ramps were not designed for the amount of traffic, the other part is just plain old foolishness!

Whatever happened to using turn signals also?

Because people driving really don't want to go out of their way to let you into the lane. They don't want to slow down or get cut off. I've seen some people continue to drive into the breakdown/shoulder lane, far after the merging lane has ended.

I'm with you. People are not courteous nor have concern for others when they drive in general. Its even more frustrating when you have to drive behind people who can't talk on the phone and drive at the same time , people who read their papers and put makeup on in the morning or even worse, those who gape at accidents when they have no intention of helping out. Driving in itself is frustrating but putting up with the schleps out here is worse!

There is a New Breed of drivers out on the roads. These folks disreguard most of what was taught to them, in drivers ed. It is a hurry up, get out of my way sociaty. The best way to avoid this, is if you can speed up a bit, or back out of it a bit, to allow them easier merging.

the law is- and a good rule- to help a car merge into your lane. granted if people would hit the gas and try to get up to everyone elses speed it would help alot.
