multiple -6 to( 5 and x), then add the (13x t 1), like so:
-30 -6x t 13x t 1=
-29 t 7x=
7x= 29
x = 29 divided by7 or 29/7
x = 1 1/7

No when there are parenthesis, you always do the distributive property.
-6(5 + x) + (13x +1)
-30+-6x+13x+1
-29 + 7x or 7x - 29

First, you have to remove the parenthesis:

- 6(5 + x) + (13x + 1)
-30 -6x + 13x +1

Now, add like terms:
-6x + 13x -30 + 1
7x - 29

That should be your answer unless your teacher wants you to solve for "x"
