Its for a mountain bike that's mostly ridden on the road. I am of course concerned about the impotence problem seats can cause. I would like to avoid that, of course.

If you are not going to ride your bike much then you can buy pretty much whatever seat you want. Just buy one that fits your bottom the best. If you are going to be doing ALOT of riding then yes go with the seats that have the hole for the penile artery. It is not a myth that it will because if you do some research there is a road biker who trained so much that he ended up crushing his penile artery and became impotent. That is why they make those seats today. Your best bet is to go to the local bike shop and talk to somone about your riding habits and they can help you pick out the best seat for your situation.

That impotence stuff is more a myth, or something that might happen like on in a nnnnth.

Well, each (_Y_) is different, so your saddle can be different from mine. Supposedly, saddle width should be based on the sitbones. Specialized has a butt measuring seat...yeah, weird, go to a bike shop when it's at it's fullest and ask in a full , deep voice 'Hey, I want my butt measured'...

There are some seats that have a hole in the middle of the saddle, some only have a channel (actually, I think that both styles are ok), and some don't have anything.

I have a WTB Rocket V and it's pretty good, also a Selle San Marco Aramid. Don't go for the really plush ones, since they are only confortables at the beggining, but tend to be hell at the end. A little padding is Ok.

Some local bike shops have seat measurement templates you can sit on and will tell which seat will best fit your butt for the style of riding you do.

I reccomend Selle San Marco or Body Geometry.

Make it a gel seat and also wear padded shorts. Get a seat that will support your behind and it must be comfortable to you. So if possible bring your bike into your local shop and try on a few on their trainers. You may also want them to fit or refit you to the bike.
