I went to MEPS today and took the physical and all that. I made the mistake of disclosing the fact that I was treated for mild anxiety a few years ago. They shoved a bunch of papers in my face to give to my doctor and booted me out the door. Did I just screw myself? Would they ever have known if I wouldn't have disclosed it? Once my Dr. sends them his medical records of my treatments, am I going to be disqualified for service?

Nikki, actually I do have ADD. Thats part of the problem. I'm going into intelligence so once my Dr discloses all his records and shows I was also treated for ADD, I could be royally f ucked

I sure hope not. I hope you will be okay! I hope that you will be able to follow your dreams of serving your country! Honestly, they probably would have never found out if you wouldn't have told the docs at MEPS. But, good for you for being honest. I think you will be able to get a waiver for it, and be able to join. Good luck in your future years!!!

Hopefully you did not screw yourself but the advice I always got was if it is not a current or ongoing issue don't bring it up. At this point as long as you "were" treated and are not being treated then play up the fact it is in the past. I am not a doctor so I cant say but I have seen a lot of people get in the military with major issues. Chances are they just wanted your doctor to clarify your issue before they did a bunch of tests and wasted a bunch of time on someone who may be unqualified. Don't take the rough treatment too hard, everyone at MEPS is a dick. It's like the DMV for military people. As long as your anxiety is over and not recurring you should be fine. Just realize though if you go to Iraq get PTSD and try to claim disability you might have some issues.

The military is more concerned with ADD or ADHD. I believe they want paperwork from your Doctor to CYA (cover your ***). I admitted to smoking pot at MEPS...even when my recruiter told me not to. I just had to sign a release and didn't get a secret clearance. That is what will happen to you..maybe. I think they just need to show that you are stable and they need your doctors John Hancock saying so. Don't worry. Hey, if the Army won't take you, try someone else. Like the Navy. Don't worry, the military always wants new bodies. They will find some way to get you in.

two words: MEDICAL BOARD, thats where you are headed toward now, well some things are better to disclose and head to the Med Board now cuz what you would have signed was I have no medical problems besides the ones listed and all that legal stuff, and some medical records are privy to the military because you signed or would have paperwork releasing all your medical records to them. if you hid it and you were in basic training and they found out, than all those pushups, and oh dark thirty runs would have been for nothing

It depends on what your DR says... and how you answer the questions that they ask you after you DR sends in the forms and you go back to MEPS... They will pretty much ask you how you are feeling and dealing with it now...

Here's a way that you can look at the situation to see if you've disqualified yourself.

If that link doesn't help, go to the other links on that page to see. I hope this helps! Good luck to you!

It's better that you told them, if they find you to be acceptable they'll still let you go, talk to your recruiter, get his take, wait for his call back. They gave you the papers to test your sanity and wellbeing. AKA how likely are you to off yourself in boot camp. If you're stable, go at it, if you aren't...perhaps college is a better choice...

I certainly would not disqualify you from the service and I thank you for wanting to do your part. If the army does disqualify you I am sure it will be their loss.
