Yes. There are also several words which the FCC doesn't allow broadcasters to use simply because people are afraid of them.

They're just words which describe concepts. The words themselves can't hurt you. I think people should lighten up a bit.

Some do but some people have not got enough respect for the power of the spoken word. Watch a child cry when told they cannot do something right. You then see how words can hurt someone. Give a child praise for a job well done and you will see how a simple spoken sentence can raise self esteem. I take my daughter who is 17 to the cemetery every year on Sept. 11th. One of her best friends, who thought he was not needed and not good enough to live, blew his brains out in his bedroom. You see, he was a little awkward and everyone around him kept pointing it out. The first time it was said was probably just like a little pin prick. But by the time he gave up his life those simple words had the power of a shotgun. You should always think about what you say and how you say it. Roy Dallas Glover may you rest in God's arms, baby boy. He had just turned 14.

I remember a time when a group of friends getting together for a fun, innocent activity was called a gang. But the meaning of the word "gang" has changed over the years. There has been so much violence that people get terrified. "I'm going to go hang with my gang" is liable to give someone panic disorder, when it once meant chatting and chuckling with your pals.

No. Society has an irrational fear of being proven wrong by or upstaged by, or being abused by, authority figures.
