If you do become a vegetarian, you must stay away from heavily starchy foods like potatoes, rice and bread. Those will wreak havoc with your blood sugar. In truth, a diet of green leafy veggies and lean meat is probably your best bet.
My grandmother has had severe diabetes her whole life and now my mother has it. From what I've seen, stress can be almost as big a threat as diet. Good luck with keeping it under control.

I have been a vegetarian for the last 17 years and am quite content. It would help, as it is a "healthier" lifestyle, but you still need to watch starches and sugars, of course, like potatoes, juices, and breads. Whole grains and brown rices are best, as well as soy products, but watch the glycemic index. You can google search to find out about the index and recipes. Definitely talk to your physician and find out how a veggie diet would work for you.

I have a diabetic friend who has had it for 10 years, and doesn't take medication... He also has a vegan diet (I'm not saying stop taking medication, but rather eat healthily and drink plenty of water)

Remember God forbade men to eat the blood and fat of animals, and he forbade men to eat certain types of animals. Infact, before the flood he told men to eat only fruit and vegetables.

The only meat really ordained is that of cattle, lambs and fish with both scales and fins (sorry no lobsters). But nowadays it is hard to find healthy flesh food that has no blood in it, the jews use to spend alot of time seperating blood from meat, we just cook the blood in it, which is a sin.

Remember not all fat is bad, only animal fat, so try to steer clear. Also whilst becoming a vegetarian, try using sea salt instead of table salt, and fructose instead of normal sugar (sucrose of glucos from sugar cane). Also canola oil is very bad for you, try to find foods without it. It would be an idea not to use caffeine or any tea which contains caffeine or levels of theobromine.

Anyway, try not to change your diet too quickly, your body won't be used to it. BTW people will tell you that you won't get enough iron or b12, these are only found in animals. How do herbivore animals get them then? We have them naturally, but anyway vegemite is high in b12, and spinach is high in iron. God Bless!!
