Many different tribes have many different stories. The native americans came to America over the land bridge that existed between Russia and Alaska around 16 thousand years ago. They followed migrating animals that they hunted. They spread all over both North and South America in a very short time and developed many distinct and different cultures and traditions. This is the established theory that your teacher would approve of. I think they actually came sooner and came by boat along the coast of the Pacific Northwest and California. There is new evidence that points to this idea. The Native Americans are most genetically similar to the original people of Japan, who live in just a small part of Japan today and some live in Russia. There are stories from many different tribes that claim they came to America from caves inside of the Earth.

Once upon a time some people came to the North American Continent from: PICK ONE OR MORE
Asia
Israel
Netherlands
Siberia
The Pacific Islands
They were, at first, nomadic tribes. Many became farmers and settled down and developed societies equal to or superior to those in Europe and Asia. They battled and many of the societies were forced into a nomadic lifestyle again in order to avoid their enemies. Then European immigrants began to settle on the Continent and brought sickness that had been rampant in the "Old World". Having no exposure prior to this the Native Americans had little resistance and died by the hundreds. They were constricted to fight in foreign armies and were taught to be savage. They were pushed off their traditional lands and forced out onto the planes and desolate areas. They fought back. They had many brave and intelligent generals, but they were over come by sheer numbers. Their leaders were sent to prison far from their people and the people were imprisoned on reservations. Prisoners of war. Like all conquered nations they were given Government aid and told to change their ways. Guess we can't say they lived happily ever after.
