Desperate times call for desperate measures, a sad but true statement. But I also don't agree with generalizing people. There are people who are poor that no matter what, would never steal or break the law. Then you have people that will break the law only in desperate times, and those again who will break the law rich or poor.
We perceive that poverty is a greater cause of crime but then again those in the justice system 9 out of 10 times can not afford an expensive attorney! And, that is troublesome, in my opinion.

Maybe maybe not. What is the situation???
Is she a single mother with one or more children???
Is she on public asstance???
has anyone told her about job opportunties and he free child care that she is intiltled to???
Where is the father is he absent fromthe home///
does she have her own home???
This is her social workers job..
My suggestion is for the mother to ask for services that are available to her so she can get back into the mainstream of society. That's if she is recieving any benefits....
Poverty sucks but opportunity needs to grabbed by the horns and someone needs to show this mother of poverty the way.

Not always. Many people live in proverty because they do not try to improve.
There are far too many people who every day pull themselves from proverty to riches or a satiflying life.
In this country proverty is no long an excuse for remaining that way if you are able and willing to work or go though the punishing efforts of getitng an education.
Over population and life time welfare are a main cause of proverty. Remember nothing is free to you. you have to earn it in some way now or later.

Poverty is bad, that is true, the way you live can make it happen,

Drug abuse, addictions, medical costs, utility hikes, irresponsible fathers who owe child support, injury, cost just to rent a p[lace to live verses what average people make.

Drugs take money from bills to keep heat on

Beer and cigarettes and other addictive items (even soda can be addictive) being more important than food for family.

Child support not just the ones who don’t get the support their owed, but also the man’s new family suffer from his mistakes because he has to pay for his first children, hurting the income to support his new family.

Utility costs going up when people are getting a better life brings their life back down, utility companies are poverty makers, rich tycoon’s who rob the poor in my opinion.

Doctors and hospitals and pharmacies charging to much for each, this even effects people’s health to go get medical help they need to live and take proper care of their families. We have programs to keep kids and elderly healthy, yet it’s the people in the middle that have to care on both ends. If they stay healthy they can help care for the others. We need medical all the way around.

The right to work law helps people who are fired for race, religion or injury, but it doesn’t help unfair firing when people are still unfairly fired, did you know that you can get fired just because someone doesn’t like the way you look and if its not connected to race, religion or injury you cant fight it.

We have more programs for single unwed, never married multi children women than any program in most states, after that comes drugs and alcohol abuse and mental health than any other program in most states. All theses actually get more than many handicap people, believe me when I say handicap don’t get everything; they have to fight for it just as bad as anyone.

One person said depending on the situation, and a woman getting opportunity and entitled to, ok so if I left my husband of 12 years to get the opportunity to milk the government, how is that right, some women do that, some know who the fathers are and don’t say to milk the government, now its different if the man really abandoned her, or if the spouse died. How is she entitles to lie to get help when there are hard working people who are trying and trying to get better and walls come up.

Married people who were making it say 8 years ago was fine at minimum wage, but today things are rising and yet pay is not so that comfort no longer exists, in turn they need help. They had kids when things were fine, but now being married with those kids keep certain programs from coming to them. Some get food stamps, may or may not get housing assistants, kids get medical, but parents have to pay high medical bills for themselves. Both can’t work or one would just be paying for daycare. They don’t get Daycare assistance because of the small amount the main spouse makes. When kids start school one has to work around kids getting out of school because daycare costs the same weather 4 or 8 hours, unless your lucky to find a friend or family help.

I honestly better stop. I can say more only because I lived half of what I stated and I have friends and family I help because of these issues. I am poor by certain standards, married 3 kids and only making 20,000.00 in a year. I also fight for many of these issues and the awareness that your small question says. It proves that even the smallest question can be the broadest of subjects. Good luck.

Poverty in my opinion does strike the society with crime. When people are poor and hungry, their only choice is to steal. I dont blame them and they've got nothing to lose for trying to survive.

also lazy people, trying to get quick- easy money, was the economy worse during the years in the past, i.e. depression, and many years ago or currently, how was the crime in relation to that, i believe there is more crime now, people had more morals and pride, and were willing to work hard to better themselves
