It stands for "Not applicable." This means that a category does not apply in the present situation or to the present person. If a person taking a degree in psychology and on their report there were places for marks in say French Language Studies. The school could mark N/A.
This is also useful to people who fill out forms. If you were applying for credit and there was a place on the form for your driver's licence number. If you don't have one, this question does not apply to you and you can write N/A in the spot. It shows the person reading the form that you responded to the question but that it doesn't apply to you.

Not Applicable. You use it when you're meant to fill in all the blanks on a report and a particular item doesn't apply.

I think it means not applicable. I know that it means there was nothing to put there but I'm not sure if that is what it stands for I'm just taking a guess.

It means it does not pertain to you. If they are asking about something that you don't do or follow, then you put N/A, not applicable.
