sorry, I meant 15 billion

The explanation is contained in two words. Genisis 1:2 says "But the earth became waste and void" obviously God would not create something waste and void. The words "But" and "became" indicate that there must be a gap between Genisis 1:1 and Genisis 1:2. How else would you explain the dinosaurs and accounts of how satan was cast down to the earth? There is also another verse in the OT that says that the angels were rejoicing when God created the heavens and the earth. Why would they rejoice if what He first created was waste and void? So there is a major gap between these two verses, only God knows how long, but the estimates based on science are in the billions. Neither the Bible nor science needs to be explained. As christians, we cant just accept facts blindly. I dont know why some christians still believe that the earth is about 6,000 years old when science clearly disproves this. There are always clear answers if we really dig into God's word.

What do you mean, explain the bible? It needs no explanation. I appreciate there are scientists who think they can prove when the earth was created. That's nice. With all due respect to science, God's word trumps "man's" proof, with me, all the time.

The Bible is an anthology, a collection of works by different writers of different times, collected and collated by the Roman Catholic Church or others over the centuries. Committees of church officials debated and selected what would serve their purposes. The original gospels, and there are many more of them than those contained in the bible, were or ancestors attempts to make sense of our life here on this planet and how we came to be. Some of them contained laws or rules for living, the Torah or Old Testament, is full of this kind of material.

The "scholars" and authors of the gospels and Bible did their best given the limited scope of knowledge and scientific information at the time. Today, unfortunately, some people still cling to some of the out dated materials and theories contained in these works. I personally wouldn't trust a first century surgeon with my appendectomy, I see no reason to trust a first century theologian as being any more enlightened when it comes to the creation of the universe.

Science doesn't know how old the Earth is. Scientists can only make estimates based on their limited knowledge of how things are currently operating. And the majority estimates are in the billions of years, not millions.

I am not anti-science. I took science every year through high school and 15 semester hours in college. I gained as great an appreciation of what they don't know as what they do know.

The bible is a collection of information that is hidden meaning it needs interpretation and a few mathematical theories for us to know the truth about the origin of the earth. For example, The "dust" mentioned in the Bible where God created man and all living things could mean single celled microorganisms joining together to form higher forms of animals including man.

The Bible was written by men of faith, not men of science, to explain the miracle of creation. It remains the same miracle regardless of the time frame in which it actually occured. It uses words to describe in terms humans can understand, so although Genesis uses the term "day" rather than "millenium" or whatever, the point of the story remains the same. God created the Heavens and Earth, regardless of how long it actually took Him.

the Bible doesn't say that adam and eve were created on the eighth day. Maybe He waited 15 million years after He created the heavens and the earth.

science shows the earth is 450 billion years old 15million years doesn't cut being that dinosaurs are at least 100 million years old, aside from that the bible is very contradictory in itself example thou shalt not kill but Sodom and Gomorrah happened
moses was going to kill Isaac etc... people will say translation errors occured but u basically cant believe the bible and science together

the earth is far older than 15 million, try 4 billion. And the bible... yeah it's a book.

That's just one of the things science has disproven. All mythologies are nonexistent, but tradition apparently outweighs logic when it comes to our society. Too bad more people don't know the brilliant man that is Richard Dawkins.
