The Apostle Paul wrote, "If any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith" (1 Timothy 5:8).

Chapelite doesn't make sense so I guess you want a real answer.
Not sure which side you are on, but try this on for size.
and if you want me to go further with bible and verse, you'll have to email me later...
Jesus spoke often of "fools" and so did the apostles in later books of the new testament. You can check this out on gospelcom.net by doing a search.
My point here is that the bible says not to be stupid or easily swayed by false prophets. It says educate yourself and be wary of people who lie to you or try to deceive you, etc. So I would say that you need to use caution in dealing with others.
So, if you educate yourself in the ways of God and the gifts he has given you, yes I would say you take care of yourself that way. The bible tells you all sorts of stuff about the "rules" of life and what to do when confronted with certain things. That is mostly in "proverbs". But that comes from reading the "word". In that respect, yes, the bible teaches you to take care of yourself!
Simple!
But also, it says to have faith in God when challenged by something that you don't understand. Which is not remaining in ignorance but saying..."Wow! What do I do? Well, being a believer, I'll put my faith in Christ to get out of this because he loves me...he will get me out of this....because I have no idea what to do!" That's how Faith works.
Lastly, God says that he'll never put us in a position that you can't handle!
Hope this helped.

I don't know about that. but I have a good argument for your debate.
tell her to stay home from work, keep on the lights, cable, and the hot water. Tell her to flush like every hour on the hour. Tell her to drive her car everyday and not put gas in it. And let her know she has to ask God to pay for everything and do everything for her, because obviously she doesn't need to help herself. God will provide everything...
I'm 100% Christian. I believe that God will bless me if I search for him before all else. But I know, that he will not work for me. Only foolish Christians believe otherwise.

No. The saying God helps him who helps himself is not from the Bible but from Poor Richards Almanac (Benjamin Franklin)..

as far as i can see there is nowhere in the bible that says "God helps those who help themselves" neither is "cleanliness is next to Godliness". God helps those who ask for His help. Sometimes He helps us by letting us learn how to do it on our own, just as we let our children struggle to... lets say tie his/her own shoes. That's my story and I'm sticking with it smiles
