i have a 3 1/2 month chihuahua male, who weighs 1.9 lbs. i live in illinois and it has been cold the last two days, not sure if that is a factor or not. he had his second puppy shots this thursday, also dont know if that is a factor. he seems to be shaking alot so ive given him lots of blankets to curl in. also he has no appetite, but will drink water. he seems to be extra wide in his upper body and rib area, more so than usual, possible bloating? he also yikes and whines here and then, usually i think when he is uncomfortable. he moves around alot till he can find a comfy place to lay and seems to be very tired. he has vomited about 6 times throughout the day, the last time being watery. he hasnt gotten into anything, he stays in a playpen most of the time when i cant look after him. i do have an appointment to see the vet tommarow morning at ten, but i was just wondering if there were any vets, vet techs or breeders who might have an idea whats wrong.

also, there is no reason to be rude to me, i live in a small town with NO 24 emergency vet clinic. i took him to the vet earlier today, but the vet had already left. they did take his tempature though, which was 100.2, low for a dog they told me to just come back in the morning.

I had added this to your other question.
An obstruction is when they eat something that they cannot digest. It gets stuck in the intestines and they cannot eat, because there is nowhere for the food to go. That is what causes them to throw up. If it is an obstruction, that may be why he is bigger toward the top. Call the ER vet and describe his symptoms to them. If it is an obstruction, tomorrow may be too late.
They can still get parvo, even after a full round of shots. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I would think it is worms or obstruction over parvo tho.

It sure is hard to diagnose over the Internet, but Teresa made a very good reminder about the Chihuahua becoming hypoglycemic..If you have a WalMart near by, they carry a tube of nutrient with electrolytes and compound sugars..(NutraCal) in the pet department...give as directed on the tube..If you can get the puppy to drink Gatorade, it will help as well..Pedialyte would be another choice, but wouldn't take care of the blood sugars....It does sound like an obstruction somewhere in his digestive tract..
Perhaps you could call a vet in a nearby town, to get advice?
Meanwhile, a heating pad might make him more comfortable, but be sure that it is only near him, (next to him) and not under him..Keep fluids to him...Pedialyte and Gatorade, are available at all grocers.
If you don't have a heating pad, a plastic bottle of hot water, wrapped in a towel will work very well..

That type of dog usually shivers alot anyway, how long have you had him? does he have the runs? will you take his temp? the vet will probably want to know all of that when you go in... They will probably take a stool sample to see if he has any worms or parasites... ALL puppies have worms All puppies... I work for a humane society and as soon as I would get puppies they would get wormed and shots...he's not old enough for a heart worm test so I wouldn't worry about that.. alot of time if my puppies got sick it was coxcidia, usually it is in the ground all over and some dogs get it but most don't... hope that helped you out some...

Aww, poor little puppy! I have a chihuahua too, but he is about a year and a half old and weighs about 6 or 7 pounds. Luckily he has never gotten sick, so I dunno. But I do know one thing; chihuahuas like to be warm, so you should let him sleep in your bed (unless you are afraid he will throw up, or if you already let him sleep there), or if he has a bed, warm up a blanket in the dryer and put it in there at bed time. It will make him feel better. Also, you should snuggle him and rub him a lot, they like that too. I hope he turns out ok!

Such a small dog might have had a problem having more than one shot at a time. it's probably his immune system. If your vet is used to taking care of big dogs, this isn't something he would think of. You might want to get a vet who is used to small dogs. and problems that arise out of their size.

I am not an expert in the field but I had a friend who had several chihuahua's and one thing they had to be wary of is making sure the puppy's sugar level did not bottom out...it is good that your dog is still drinking but you need to see if you can get some kayro syrup in him. Keep us posted.

I would take him in to the emergency vet clinic to be checked with such a small dog you can't afford to wait until morning :(

I don't know what's wrong, but it sounds serious. What are you doing? Get the dog to a vet right now - don't waste time asking questions on Yahoo.
