Deep space is very costly. Will the costs outweigh the benefits?
We have bills to pay and a war on terror going on around us. I think multiple countries would need to partake in such a mission not just us. We do not have an efficient power source for such a mission. The crew would require water to recirculate and develop an ecology. Space is very cold when you are far from a sun. The water would have to stay warm. Plants would need sunlight to grow and produce oxygen. We aren't ready for that yet.

Would you be willing to pay a tax to help the US war effort if it was to be only a temporary measure? This is how income tax was "sold" to the US population back around World War I. It was received with mixed results since everyone wanted to be seen as "patriotic". The problem was, once the war was over, the government found other things to spend the revenue on and it was never removed.
To answer your question, no, I would not be willing to pay more taxes than I already do. I pay 5 figures in taxes every quarter and I pay my fair share, but I also try to pay the least possible as allowed by the law.

Sorry, but no such animal. Congress gives NASA an annual budget and they have to make due with it. Every year it keeps getting smaller and smaller. But think about this, our resources are becoming fewer and fewer. There are more than seven billion people on this planet too.
Within another two or three generations we're going to have to either go out into the stars and colonize another planet or else kill each other off in a fight of the fittest.
