In German, "thanks" alone is "danke." "Thanks a lot" would be "danke schön", where the "ö"--contrary to the belief of some people who grew up hearing the song "Bei mir bist du schön"--does not have the value of "a" as in "day", but rather the value of "eu" in French "chaleur". (If "schön" were meant to be pronounced like English "shane", it would have been spelled "schän".)

Another way to say "thanks a lot" is "vielen dank", where the first word is pronounced similar to English "feelin'". I've never heard of "wiels dank"--it's probably from a non-Hochdeutsch dialect.

In Italian, "thanks" is "grazie".

You can say danke schon in German, or you can say wiels danke (pronounced viels) which means many thanks!

I believe it is grazie in Italian.
