No. I think they have a lot of respect for the ppl around them and for themselves. You don't have to cuss in order to be "tough". Some ppl believe cussing is crass.

There is, and never will be, anything "whimpy" about showing respect for others. Nothing makes a person look more like a "loser" than bad, inappropriate language. (Just because you hear the "F" word in the media all the time, it doesn't make it an acceptable word to the general populance....) But "gosh, "heck" and "darn", though decent and acceptable, show about as much creativity as the gutter language does and most folks that I know have much more colorful and individualistic choices, all clean and entertaining. Intelligent people are not sheep....they think for themselves and "speak" for themselves.

I admire people who use grace and restraint in speaking. I aspire to do the same but every now and then a bad word just slips out. I find nothing wimpy about this; quite the opposite. It is easy and unimaginative to utter profane words. Also, I notice that people who do a lot of swearing tend to be on the wimpy side of the spectrum.

I don't know why they do it! I never really understood why "gosh", "heck", and "darn" are OK to use anyway. Isn't the meaning the same? Really, if you're going to be offended or upset by a word, then shouldn't you be offended or upset at the sentiment behind the word rather than the word itself? "Aw, heck" conveys the same meaning as "aw, hell", but one is "offensive" and one is OK? I don't get it...maybe someone can explain?

i am all for free speech, but ****! if I want to cuss i will. I am free/irish/ over 21,and if i'm gonna cuss,i am going to do so. If ppl get offended, then they can leave my home and not come over. It isn't to appear tough,or anything. It is because of this simple reason : BECAUSE I CAN!!!!!!!!!!! I also don't believe in censorship. If parents don't want their kids to watch adult swim, TURN OFF THE TV! plain and simple. I used to live in Utah, and the main "cuss " word was " Oh my heck" instead of " OH my hell" and it sounded so lame! I was raised around bikers, druggies, hookers, partiers, drunks, and i heard all manner of " bad" language, and could cuss in three languages when I was 12. ( spanish not included). So, if I want to swear, I ******' will. It doesn't mean that ppl have a limited vocabulary, either. That is also lame. Ppl who say that, don't have the balls to swear and carry it off. They are no better than those of us who do cuss. There is a time and a place for cussing, and it is whenever and wherever I wanna do so! ( ps, for those of you who are Bible thumpers, show me in the Bible where it says i can't cuss???)

No. I respect myself and others too much to cuss. I find it really annoying and rude. It is so unappealing. Sometimes I say the 'whimpy version' but I try not to really cuss. I actually think a person is more of a whimp if they cuss because it shows no self control. Its more hard to stop yourself from cussing then it is to actually cuss.

Hey, they're all just words ... both these and the other words they imply. So if the intention behind them is similar to their "cuss-worthy cousins," then maybe it's not "wimpy," but it is a bit hypocritical to use them in their place. It's the thought that counts. I do use these words, and when I use them, they are used to express milder thoughts than their four-letter counterparts.

I don't think I've ever used those words to substitute for cuss words. I try not to swear in the presence of my extended family and I don't swear when women are around. People who know me just accept that and don't give me any grief about it. They also know that I can swear up a storm when I'm with the "guys".
